Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

Super Bowl XL open thread

Anything to say during the game? Let it out here.

I'll start by saying that I'm sick of the National Anthem being used as a performance piece. You don't see anyone from any other country doing that. It's sad, pathetic, and rather insulting.

OK. Game time. Enjoy.

So much for that ...
I thought the refs were supposed to be nonexistent in this game. Evidently, at least one of them decided he has to be the focus. That was a terrible call on the "push off".

Repeat performance ...
I guess Joey Porter was wrong. The NFL wants Pittsburgh to win. They've gotten every call in this game, including a booth review that Bill Leavy simply got wrong. There's no way the ball crossed the plane of the goal line on Roethlisberger's carry. Once again, one team is totally outplaying the other and is losing with much help from the officials.

Seattle really blew it
I have no idea what the hell Seattle was doing there. And I don't know why Holmgren let it happen. Hasselbeck throwing way outside twice, the first catch would have been a touchdown, the second at least would have insured a field goal. Those are the kinds of things that can lose a Super Bowl. Despite dominating the first half, Seattle is in trouble.

NO WAY
that ball crossed the goal line!!  Geez, unreal.  here we go again, officiating determining the outcome of a game.

Parker touchdown
That will be your play of the game, and Parker will probably end up being your MVP ... unless something drastic changes. Seattle will have a hard time shifting momentum now that they've lost it ... they're basically playing in Pittsburgh ... Seattle blew too many first-half chances.

Blame Bettis for Roethlisberger INT
That interception happened because Bettis can't hang on the field for more than three or four plays at a time without needing oxygen. And for all the Pittsburghers who laughed at Brady when Champ Bailey picked him, that pass was FAR worse. That Jeremy Stevens scored the touchdown was icing on the cake. Now only if Seattle can keep it going.

This is really crap ...
... the way the officials are impacting this game. Every big play Seattle has, they're flagged for phantom penalties. Madden has said twice that these offensive penalties were nonexistent. That offensive holding call on the deep Stevens catch was ridiculous. And now that directly leads to the turnover. It's disgusting.

And the penalty on Hasselbeck ...
... was also absolutely terrible. This is an "all-star" crew? The NFL should be ashamed that this is their showcase. Absolutely ashamed.

And on the Randel El pass ...
... the officials miss a blatant holding on the offensive line. Just by coincidence. I guess Madden missed that one. But this is atrocious. Any semblence of legitimacy is starting to dissolve. I'm really disappointed that this would be allowed to happen.

These officials are SO BAD ...
... now it's just embarrassing. How can they possibly call that a fumble? First, it's the quarterback going down to avoid a tackle. It's supposed to be a dead ball when he hits the ground, whether he's sliding or not. Add to it that Hasselbeck was OBVIOUSLY touched on the way down, and it's simply (I'm out of adjectives) how bad this game has been called. I don't care that it's overturned on review. These guys are supposed to be the best, and they're really, really bad. I guess it's just coincidence that 90 percent of the calls have benefitted one team.

I don't know about you ...
... but it almost looks like Seattle threw the game. The mismanagement of the ends of both halves is so uncharacteristic that it's almost not to be believed. And Seattle never got the benefit of a decent call the whole game. What a sham. The

The good news is ...
... at least Bettis had little to no impact. Hopefully we can go without hearing his name for four or five years.

super bowl marred by horrible officiating
steelers made some plays when it mattered and seattle seemed at times in disaray, however this game will be remembered for the inexcusably bad officiating. these guys make so many incorrect calls it is beyond belief. i and most people are watching the game and in real time can see the play was called incorrectly and it is confirmed on replay. and then replay is supposed to correct mistakes on the field and it seldom does. how can this happen? something has to be done. besides the incorrect calls you have already mentioned i would like to mention two others that changed the game. on the play before hasselbecks interception he was sacked on a play that a steeler was clearly offside, which forced seahawks to gamble and cause the interception.  and then onthe interception return hasselbeck is called for an illegal block when he made the TACKLE! this put the steelers in field postion for the trick paly that ended the game. this type of officiating is unfathomable for a multi-billion dollar league.

Have to agree re: bad officiating
Gawd awful bad. That crew should never officiate another NFL game. If any of us screwed up THAT bad doing our day jobs, we'd be fired. No excuses.
