What are the Chargers thinking?

If they were going to fire Marty Schottenheimer -- and I don't think they should have -- they should have done it within days following the AFC Divisional Playoff loss to New England. This move makes no sense at all.

I can't imagine firing a coach that goes 35-13 over three seasons, 14-2 in the most recent, and loses in the playoffs to a team that had won 3 of the previous 5 Super Bowls (and was a play away from playing in and probably winning a fourth in six years), espeically after the team's two coordinators and a handful of top assistants took advanced jobs with other teams.

Can you imagine if Robert Kraft fired Bill Belichick after Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis took new jobs? What would have happened to the Patriots? Well, that's what's going to happen to San Diego.
