Open Thread: Remembrances of Marquise Hill

New England defensive end Marquise Hill was not well-known to many Patriots fans. A second-round pick 3 years ago, he never earned the playing time to make himself a household name. That was a tall task with the likes of Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and fellow Louisiana State alum Jarvis Green playing ahead of him.

However, those of you who do have anything to say about Marquise, you are welcome to say it here.

Pats Pulpit offers our condolences to the Hill family and friends, the LSU Tigers and the New England Patriots.

Codolences to his family
His death could have been avoided had he worn the proper safety equipment, but if you're going to die, what better way is there than by saving the life of another person? According to the news reports so far, he could have saved himself, but saved his companion instead. He's also spent a lot of time and money helping people who were hurt by Hurricane Katrina. He may not have gotten much playing time for the Patriots, but it sounds like he was someone of great character.

A Patriot-type of player, indeed
Nice post, RSNexile. In days when the other NFL news is dominated by allegations of a so-called premiere player deeply involved in a dog-fighting ring and at least one other premiere player supporting him, the loss of Hill is truly and deeply felt in the communities where he lived and the league.

There has been much discussion when players come into town about players being a Patriots-type or Bill Belichick-type of players. Men of character. And while this theory may be tested by one or two recent additions (time will tell - that's another discussion, anyway), there can be no argument that most of the men suiting up in red, white and blue are people of whom to be proud.

As his agent Albert Elias said, "It's just like him to put someone else's life in front of his own."

Marquise Hill certainly will be missed by many.

At some point...
...I would hope the Patriots, the NFL, and LSU would start some sort of foundation in his name, maybe dedicated to promoting the use of safety equipment in sports.

Our....
deepest sympathies to the family of Marquise.  Broncos nation has had its fair share of loss this year.  This man's influence went far beyond the confines of the football field.  Their are victims of Katrina who would call him "hero".  The NFL and football fans suffered a great loss this week.

I know you guys didn't get to see much of him...
But boy did he make a difference for us on the 2003 national championship Tigers team. A stud, and a truly good man. Just tragic.

Sounds like he made a difference otherwise, too
Thanks for dropping by GeauxTigers (from And The Valley Shook). If you have anything else to contribute -- a story of this man's generosity or an anecdote from his LSU days -- don't hesitate to share.
