Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots: Let's talk turkey
![]() |
1-5... That's NE's record against the Broncos. If you're a Broncos fan, it's 5-1, but whatever. I digress. I like this team, the Broncos that is. I don't know why. Maybe it has something to do with HC Mike Shanahan. I think he's a shotgun full of class and creates an organization that is just as classy. I don't know, just one blogger's opinion. At 4-2, the Denver Broncos rank #1 in the AFC West and have a bunch of stats to back that up. So I don't have to retype, I'll lift these numbers from an answer over at Mile High Report:
At 166 points scored, Denver is second only to SD in the AFC and 6th in the NFL. Passing offense is rated 2nd while running offense is 7th. That’s pretty darn good. One problem I see is point differential (points scored vs. points allowed). Denver sits at 12 which is good, but on average, games are won by less than 2 TDs. On the flip side, your 2 losses weren’t that bad either.
Points...Points...Points...CASSEL?!?!?! Hear that? Denver's average point differential is 12. HIT...RANDY...MOSS!! Please overthrow Mr. Lanky. If you turn him inside again, I'm going to blow a gasket. Our point differential is -20. Ouch. Anyway...
With a Passing Offense rated 2nd, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that we need to shutdown Jay Cutler. He's at a 64% completion percentage and 282.3 yards per game. Get him off the field! Given the troubles of late with our secondary, this might be tough; SD is 6th and they abused our DBs.
Way, way more to come over the coming days.

Thanks for calling us a classy team!
What a delightful change after cross-blogging (on occasion) with the Raiders! It is really sad that Brady went down—I know you hate it—I hate it also. I hope we win this Monday—I even think we can—but either way (without Brady) it is a lose-lose case for us. A loss for us (after what the bolts did) would be devistating—a win is what we should do against a Bradyless Pats.
I hope we win this game—we really must—if we don’t we need to branded ‘pretend’ and look forward to one more year of rebuild.
The best defense is a good offense!
I hope.

This is a blog written by a fan. The love, the hate for his own team.
Hope you enjoyed the dynasty while it lasted.
Interesting comment
…considering my team’s “dynasty” is in fairly recent memory. Can you say the same?

That’s all! Let’s keep it positive in here. We have endured and will continue to endure far worse (and more imaginative) taunting than this.
Thanks for the nice comments
I was honestly wanting Brady to be playing in this game. I know Denver has been successful against you guys, however with the offense you guys put together last year, I was wanting to see how we would do against you guys.
This should be a good game as the matchups between our two teams usually are. Two coaches trying to stay one step ahead of the other.

The Broncos
…are the team I always dread seeing on the schedule. They really have our number. I find it hard not to root for Cutler though, even when he’s up against our guys.
maybe but then...
… the saying that one player does not make a team strongly depends on who that one player is. Tom Brady is just… great. Possibly the greatest there ever was. Not having him his exposed a ton of weaknesses on our team. One – Tom made the O line look great, not the converse. He gets rid of the ball so quickly and perfectly. Two – we supposedly have the best D-line in football and against the run, they are great… but they cannot generate pass pressure to save their lives. This is not a running league anymore and an effective passing attack will kill you really fast. We proved that 18 times last season. I’m not sure how ineffective our secondary is since they have the hardest position in the present NFL with its receiver favoring rules and the other team’s quarterback usually has enough time to call his girlfriend in the pocket and then throw the ball.
So, in short, Cassell is not Brady, our O-line looks like it consists of turnstyles, our D-line generates no pass rush and our secondary has its problems although their extent is unknown. Our special teams looks like crap too. Especially on the defensive side.
Injury Effect?
Matt Light, with a knee injury, and Nick Kaczur, with an ankle injury, did not participate. Defensive end Jarvis Green, a valuable backup. Hopefully they will recover soon. Found some cool widgets at statbeast.com. Check it!
