Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his regular Tuesday conference call, and Mike Reiss calls attention to a particular point of interest.
Peyton Manning and injuries in focus. When a questioner asked Belichick his thoughts on Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and how he's battled through injuries, Belichick responded by calling him a "great player" and detailed what makes him tough to defend (e.g. he makes all the necessary throws). Belichick had completed his answer and then was asked a different question. In his answer to the new question -- about the Patriots and Colts once again meeting in early November -- he stopped mid-sentence and said: "Going back to Manning for a second, if I'm not mistaken he hasn't been on the injury report all year, other than maybe one day right at the beginning of the season. I'm not really sure what injuries you're talking about. He hasn't been listed on the report all year, so I'm assuming he's not hurt." There seemed to be a message in those words from Belichick. The Patriots' injury reporting procedures are often discussed by media members, and it seemed as if Belichick was pointing out that other teams deserve some attention too. Manning missed all of training camp with a knee injury.

ha
pretty funny when you think about it. he loves sarcasm. I don’t see it as an insult against the Colts at all though, he’s just annoying the media because we all know Peyton is injured but Belichick won’t comment on anything that isn’t official.

Thought it was hilarious
I first noticed it on SI.com, under the teaser heading, “Pats’ Bill Belichick takes a dig at Manning, Colts” and was in disbelief. Belichick is way too disciplined to ever take a dig at any opponent, and especially not a Prime Opponent the week preceding a game.
It reminded me of how the media misinterpreted Brady’s response to his ankle during the preseason, when he said he still couldn’t jump or run with any speed. It was a JOKE. Brady never could jump or run with any speed, even 100% healthy. With Belichick it wasn’t so much a joke as pretty funny – and dead on accurate – sarcasm.
Keep the faith!
I think BB is hilarious in a dark, twisted sort of way

I agree.
He puts me in stitches sometimes. The whole fish-eye, flat-tone thing is a mask, a pose. It must be hard to maintain sometimes—it’s when it slips that he’s often at his funniest.

To have no sense of humor for a second
If a guy is practicing and will play the team has no obligation to put him on the report.
Shonn Greene for Heisman
144 yards per game
6.5 yards per carry
08 TDs per game > 06 GPA
exactly Bills point
the media jumps all over him for it, although players routinely practice and play with injuries.
Keep the faith!
The only thing I blame him for was the
Brady, Probable, Right Shoulder ridiculousness.

Wasn't that the first time
Brady wasn’t listed on the Injury Report for something like 3 years?
Maybe BB should have kept him there…
I love BB’s responses to obvious questions…for some reason, I hate him and like him at the same time.

Yup
Brady came off the injury report in 2008 and my faith was shaken for a moment. Clearly, that was the beginning of venus not aligning with mars. ;-)
I think the guy’s a riot during pressers. Reporters are always asking him questions that he’s not going to answer. One of my favorite exchanges, and I paraphrase:
Reporter: Coach, what do you think of the turmovers in the game?
Belichick: I like us to have less and them to have more.

That was the one I was thinking of.
I mean, between the lines you can almost hear him say “dumbass” – it cracks me up!

Injury Report
My memory might be a little off, but a few years back the Pats were set to face the Atlanta Falcons, and they were preparing for Vick and his ability as a scrambler. Vick didn’t play and was never placed on the injury report leading up to that game, and the Pats nearly lost playing against Matt Schaub (who went on to have 3 TD’s and 300 yards).
Belichick was pissed and put like half the team on the injury report as a “screw you” to the NFL for not doing anything about those type of situations. Hence, Brady being “Probable” for three years.
Can't say
I blame him.

There are
a couple different ways of looking at and using the injury report. With BB, I think he wants to make the other team believe the Pats are weaker than they actually are. It also makes the other team have to prepare for more than they would otherwise.
Other coaches, Dungy being among them, don’t want to give the other team a head’s up that a player may not be at 100%. It’s just two different scools of thought, but I believe if a player is legitimately hurt, he should be on it. Conversely, if nothing is wrong with a player, then he shouldn’t be on it.
I know some don’t agree, but the injury report should not be used to try to gain an advantage. But because of all the money bet on football, the injury report plays into the spread of the game. IMO, this is the true reason the report is not always entirely accurate.
"Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory...lasts forever."-Shane Falco, "The Replacements"
The gambling is the only reason there's a public injury report in the first place. eom
