PostGame Thread: Patriots defeat Dolphins, 48-28
A decent back-and-forth, and then Randy comes alive with some awesome catches. The WR corp had 408 yards with a 530 total. Discuss.

can't believe Cassel's numbers
I would have thought Brady would have had 400 two games in a row last year

I hate the Jets
I want to drink to the Titans first loss, but they have sucked all the fun out of it.

Great Win
I’m a little concerned about our defense, but the offense had an awesome day and shutting Joey Porter up is always a good thing.
I also have to agree with cia. I don’t want to see another team go 16-0 (especially if Mercury Morris is rooting for them…) but why did it have to be the Jets, of all teams?

Took a look at Phinsider
and, yes, we are apparently a classless organization for running up the score at the end of the game.
That, and the “Mexican” refs stole the game from the ’Phins, and Matt Light is a faggot.
All I can say is, I’m really glad MaPatsFan runs this site the way he does.

Definitely.
You could have 500 comments a gamethread if you kept finsx, Louie, etc., around and let them trash the place.

ok there's running up the score and then running up the score
that was not an example.
P.S.
I hate Randy Moss.
Let's go Colts!

Refs?
I think it’s funny they would even enter the conversation considering the Patriots were being penalized a lot more than the Dolphins were to start the game.
Speaking of Randy Moss, I think congratulations are in order. He’s now 2nd all time in receiving TD’s. Congrats, Randy!

excellent...do you know how many he needs to get to number 1?

Jerry Rice
I believe has a strong hold on the #1 spot with 197 touchdowns.

Moss has 129
Chris Carter – 130, TO – 135, Rice – 197

Are you sure?
Moss has 131 now after this game (and I checked NFL.com to make sure). I don’t know about TO, though.

Yeah, lots of negativity there I noticed. Though in fairness, there’s probably some rawness there given the playoff implications of this loss for them…putting them (I think) two games back in the wildcard with only a few weeks left to play, so I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and hope it’s just venting off the frustration.
The racial and homophobic put-downs, though, definitely fall into my “not cool” book.

Me too. There’s no need or place for that in a public forum. But it’s not my site. If Matty wants to run it that way, that’s his choice.

No Thanks,
I just washed my hands and don’t want to have to do it again so soon. Much as I may dislike the Jets, I still hate the Dolphins more. From the low-class behavior of the old guys last year back to their “glory days” where Shula had the refs in his pocket and they NEVER seemed to get a bad call against them, or a drive stalled by holding penalties, they are my most hated Pats’ rival. I’ve always kind of respected Pennington and liked Jason Taylor, but I’d be happy if they never made the playoffs again. Their fans have more arrogance based on one freak season 36 years ago than is believable.

I would go with you,
but for the fact that I watched the pats in New Jersey last year. I won’t say that all Jets fans are unreconstructed goomba’s, but I’ve never met one who wasn’t.

Street Fight
What a physical game, and I’m not just talking about the Light-Crowder melee. The Pats had to go to a division rival’s homefield and win, and they left everything on the field to get it done. Cassel has backed up one great game with another exceptional performance.
Don’t worry about the Dolphins fans whining about the “classless” Pats. These are professional football players, there’s no need to protect their psyche like they’re high school players. Score differential is a factor in division and wild-card standings. If a team can do what the Pats did at the end, they’re obligated to. As for Light, he was stupid to throw punches but he wasn’t doing it for fun. Crowder submarined him on the kick, and while he didn’t deserve getting punched, it’s not like he’s an angel that was just standing there minding his business. And I agree with JHR, it’s nice to come to a site that doesn’t put up with that type of behavior.

Yep--one of the more emotionally physical games I've seen this year.
Both teams knew they need to win out in order to get to the playoffs. The Pats are like a wounded animal right now; the ’Fins are like the young buck who senses weakness in the leader.
I’m glad we won. I would have thought we’d pound it more than we did, but I suspect that the brain trust determined a couple of things: Morris is still less than 100%, and, more importantly, our defense is not capable of playing in close games anymore. Too many injuries to too many key players. It was going to be a shoot-out.
Cassel has brass balls, and he gets better every week.

Matt Cassel
My favorite play of the game was his six-yard QB sneak.

Yep--I think it set the tone.
It seemed to me that we’d come out kind of flat, but Matty wasn’t having it.

But we’re sure going to miss Light against Pittsburgh. Hopefully it will only be a one-game suspension

No kidding: that's going to hurt.

Love Moss's press conference
He said Cassel’s playing “Hell-afire” ball right now. Plus he wanted to stick it to Miami for daring to play him single coverage.

You're a fool if you single him. Now that Cassel is getting a feel for the deep ball--
if Gaffney and Aikens can continue to improve, we may be into something special.

It's sad, but...
…we may not have much of a choice. Franchising him would cost a fortune and if Brady’s healthy for 2009, Matt’s price tag would be a lot for a backup. I think he’s gone next year.
