Moss makes certain things possible!!
And Cassel has played damn good BUT,
IT'S ALL ABOUT BELICHICK!!
He is constantly evolving, adapting and adjusting with the talent he has. Recognizing his strengths and playing around them. They bring in Randy Moss last year and at the same time the defense starts getting older and a little slower. So what does Belichick do. He turns into Mike Martz. He knew he would have to outscore teams like the Colts and the Chargers. HE KNEW his aging defense wouldn't be able to shut those high flying teams down like they have in the past. So Belichick outscored everyone, ever! Then at seasons end he drafts speed on defense because he doesn't want to throw the ball like he did. He wants to play ball control. Now to start this season he loses his MVP QB. What does he do, he turns back into the PRE -MOSS Patriots. Grind it out keep it close 17-10 over Kansas City. 19-10 over the Jets. He see's his QB growing through the season. Playing some of the weaker teams allows them to stay in those games and stay at the top of the standings. Now the season progresses and Cassel starts feeling comfortable and BOOM, back to back 400 yard games in the air.

I Hate Him
I wish he was mine! You can keep your Brady. Belichick can find another Brady, and may have already. Brady would never find another Belichick!
It's certainly possible
That Brady would be a star anywhere. One data point does not a law make.
What makes Brady great, moreso than his physical ability, which has clearly shown to be adequate to perform to the highest of standards, is his intellectual ability to absorb what Belichick throws at him. Cassel has also absorbed it. Something tells me Belichick values intellect as highly as physical ability. Perhaps others coaches would not be patient as Belichick, but I don’t think even Belichick could make a pro bowler out of say, Ryan Leaf.
He drafts Brady late in 2000, Cassel late in 2005, and for example this year O’Connell late in 2008. I have a feeling these players were drafted because they were perceived as mentally acute, and Bill felt he could teach them even though they had not been great College stars.
Granted, not all of his QB selections have come into their own, but neither would have Cassel had Brady not gone down.
It should also be noted that Brady himself has been coaching Cassel this year.
I think Brady, should he forego the life of daily golf and massages, would make a great NFL QB coach or higher, and truly, he must be given credit for being the one on the field making the plays. Belichick knows what do to, but he also needs a QB that can do it, and Brady has showed the ability to drink the kool-aid, learn and execute the systems, and being the perfect teammate, putting his ego aside, and he deserves equal credit for winning the games he started as does Belichick.
Certainly, Belichick coached before New England, and found no miracle QBs before. Perhaps Brady and Belichick both have contributed to the atmosphere and dogma in Foxboro that turned a college nobody like Cassel into AFC Offensive player of the week.
"These players, a lot of other people didn't believe in them, but they believe in themselves. And that is all that matters."- Bill Belichick
