Somebody...say something!

I posted this elsewhere, but I must force the issue.  Being a third party, I wanted to see but fans reactions.  This the views on this blog are defensive and no one seems to show any unbias.... Does any Pats fan feel embarrased about this?

I do, just for being an NFL fan. Matt Light has how many rings? His team was putting the seal on a big win IN miami. Wow. What an child. Complete with his smirk as he walked off the field. I know he does not represent the enitre team, but damn, if he was a Buffalo Bill, I know me and my fellow Rumblers would show huge disappointment on our blog. Am I missing something here? Why are you saying "I’d rather talk football?’ Isn’t that what this forum for—all aspects of the Pats, including character? What is it with you Pats fans? After Vince W viciously dove into JP last year, I lost a little respect for all things Patriots, but this is plain silly. Please, if I have missed a thread that shows Pats fans calling out Light, show me where I can find it.

Help me regain respect for Patriot fans!

I don't think your gonna find too many Pat's fans willing to sh*t on thier own lawn

This is my opinion, but its not what your looking for, so you should probably stick with getting the answers that you want over at Phinsider. I have 4 brothers. One thing I learned early on, is that if someone has a sh*t eating grin like Crowder had immediately after the incident, is that he probably started it, and was damn proud that he had managed to get his battle joined. (just like my little brother, he needed a good smack) Additionally, the matching fines, after a full investigation, make Crowder look all the less innocent. Sure, it was not cool for Light to lose it and make it physical, but the only thing I really feel bad about is that he didn’t manage to get a few good swings in on that classy fellow Porter at the same time.

obviously

pats fans hold their team, staff, and players to a much lower standard than the fans of other teams. its been my observation that they will defend the indefensible every time. the character of the players and the coaches is not what’s important to them – its the wins, baby! get the win at any cost, right bill?

by SE7ENS on Nov 28, 2008 2:13 PM EST   0 recs

That's pretty sweeping

C’mon, Crowder was just as guilty and fined exactly the same. I don’t condone what Light did; it was blatantly wrong and creative tons of negative press for the team and the fans. Crowder seems to be viewed as “the good guy” in this altercation when he was just sneakier at it.

Do you really think Crowder was the wronged innocent here? You buying into the conspiracy thing?

For Crowder to be fined the same $15,000, do you really think he got shafted? Maybe, just maybe, the Phins trash talking has gotten a bit out of hand. One Miami player said Porter was penalized because the refs thought he was spitting his venom at them instead of the Pats, and it cost them how many penalty yards in the fourth quarter??? The refs had enough. Porter even apologized to the team. It wasn’t fixed, there was no conspiracy, period. Nothing really left to say.

Keep the faith!

This is not really about trash talking, is it?

I bet Crowder and Porter are douchbags on the field with their mouths. WHATEVER. Ths is about a guy who I use to look up to as he protected one of the greatest passers in world history win the Super Bowl. This is about a Pat being human, even childish, and reading you guys continue to defend unacceptable behavior.

Correct

“This is about a Pat being human”…….

You just answered your own question. Why did Light go off?? He’s human..like you stated. How much taunting can you take?? When have you had enough?? Do you even know what was said on field, didn’t think so. Yeah, the Pats were ahead, yeah Light should’ve ignored him, but he didn’t. A black mark on his otherwise good game. I do not condone sh*t talking in any level of sports. It should be banned and anyone doing it should be fined/suspended/punished. It degrades the mentality of the game and it only serves one purpose — NONE.

Kinda like....

all your disappointed comments about Lynch when he was involved in a hit and run….ohhhhh yeah “thurman”, there were none from you on the Bills SB Nation blog…wow, you really hold true to your convictions as a die hard NFL football fan.

Nice Troll, nice …..

by OneMore on Nov 28, 2008 2:47 PM EST   0 recs

excellent point

I had forgotten about the Marshawn Lynch hit and run and hide from the police incident. No team is completely “clean” enough to cry foul anywhere.

Yes, fellas...

I will be the first to be ashamed of Beast Mode’s bone-headed manuver. Go look back at our blog. NO ONE DEFENDED LYNCH like I am seeing here. We felt scared that our promising season was put on the skids. We admitted that if the said crime was ML’s fault, he pulled a bone headed stunt. Marshawn issued an appology, like the upstanding man he probably is. COME ON KIDS! Light was fired up and intagonised by an out-of-line punk named Channing Crowder. But Light has championships, a locked up win, a size advantage, a helmet, and a hand full of dreads holdung a guy’s head toward the turf!!! I am not getting through here, am I?

are you kidding me?

I was all over your blog when that happened and NO ONE thought he should be suspended. You were all worried about it at the time.

I'm just saying

The refs saw something there too. But you can go join the conspiracy theorists over at the Phins that the game is rigged, the refs are corrupt, and Goodell is in Bob Kraft’s pocket (or worse.)

Matt Light should not have punched Crowder. That was wrong.

Happy?

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

and I was going to leave it at that,

but I need to point out just how incredibly stupid this whole conversation is. First of all, Goodell’s decision is in complete harmony with his other actions regarding fights on the field in this season. As in, the same.

Secondly, the idea that throwing a few punches in a football game is indicative of some kind of character flaw, which, now exposed, means you can no longer “look up to” the puncher says more about you than it does about Matt Light — none of it particularly impressive.

Finally, the idea that Matt was smiling as he left the field because he was somehow satisfied with his own behavior is ridiculous, considering what he must have been hearing from the crowd at the time he decided putting his helmet on would be a good idea.

This entire brouhaha is the prototypical tempest in a teapot, fueled by fans of the losing team and a fatuous blogosphere with nothing else to do now that the turkey has eaten and the relatives have gone but look forward to Sunday and wank away at the computer.

I hope everyone took equal note of the way the evil Titans egregiously ran up the score against the clearly disheartened and destroyed Lions on a National Day of Thanksgiving? I was appalled, personally. They continued throwing and completing long passes, even in the fourth quarter, even on third down. They kicked several long field goals when they could have easily run the ball—instead they decided to run it up, showing off the leg of their all-star kicker, letting him pad his stats. You know what? They never even let Detroit convert a third down! Fascists! It was disgusting, and Jeff Fischer is clearly an asshole with bad fashion sense.

Then, in the very next game, Tony Romo continued to throw for self-aggrandizing ego-biscuit touchdowns with Dallas comfortably ahead, 24-9, and later marching the team down field for an in-your-face field goal. I hope he dies.

Don’t even get me started on Donovan McNabb “redeeming” himself against the Cardinals. What a prick!

I used to look up to these men with respect, but now all my heroes are gone. I’m crying right now, as a matter of fact. Just what has happened to our society? I mean, we’re clearly down the long road to hell, and, frankly, I have to admit that it’s all the Patriots’ fault—specifically Bill Belichick. I used to look up to the hoodie like a father. Now I have no father. I see he’s nothing more than a venal crook who should probably be thrown into a Shanghai prison and butt-raped for the rest of his life by a Chinese bull brought in specifically for that task.

Thank god, I’ve finally come to my senses. Thank you, thank you, thank you, oh wise denizens of the sporting internet for saving me from a life of fandom folly! I have truly seen the error of my ways.

Morons.

Christ

Seriously, what more does this kid want? I think we all agree Matt Light should’ve kept his cool, but considering Crowder was fined equally as much (and Porter fined later on, too) I’m led to believe they were hardly the innocent ones in this particular scuffle. The NFL made its ruling and hopefully Matt Light doesn’t do it again. Stop making it a bigger issue than it really is.

Final word from me

Thank you for the discussion, guys. To clear up a few of these points: I am not among the conspirisory theorists. I know it takes two to tango, and I 100% believe that Channing (known for his loose mouth) should have been fined. You did awnser my question that you are dissapointed in Light’s outbreak…and that is all I was inquiring. I said nothing about running up the score, nor will I ever. That is football, period. After the Pats blasted the Bills 56-10, I was very down, but I have been on football teams that have won by similar margins, and I know when you have time on the clock, it’s your job to keep the petal down. Let up and you could get hurt. And to top it off, if you are 46 points better than another team, especially a division rival, you should prove it. The sarcastic rant from JohnHannahRules was a bit over the top when you look at the points I have made.

Last, fighting happens in all sports. I am actually suprised how little fighting goes on in the NFL, considering the nature of the sport. In hockey, kids are taught fighting etiquite, and that is the main issue I saw in this particular post, if Light was a hockey player, he might have thrown off his facemask before swinging.

OK, this is getting old. Like you, I am moving on, and I fully expect Light to keep his cool for quite a while (IMO, he dodged a bullet,) and Channing Crowder/ Joey Porter rack up more fines with their mouths. I look forward to blogging with you later.

Thurman

That’s not how the fans of New England work. As long as players produce, or at one time they have produced then they are ALWAYS RIGHT. Like the team and coach,….Always right. They ALWAYS get the bad call. Everybody is ALWAYS out to get them. You can say nine good things about the Patriots and one bad thing, and they will PUNISH you for the one bad thing you said. They will beat you down to the point you might not want to critisize anymore because BAM,…..THE SMACK DOWN! They run people out of town around here! There is no diversity of fans. There is nobody to keep these people in check. The national media depends on the local guys for their opinions. The local guys are the biggest homers and pretty soon you have everyone buying into the garbage. When it comes to any award they scream and yell look at us, we deserve it, we want respect, our guys are the best. They stuff the ballot boxes and then scream and yell some more. The reputation of the fans of New England is getting worse and worse. I am personally on a mission to keep things balanced. I won’t stop until I’m dead. That’s how bad they are. They have sent me over the edge.
