Mangini Fired

The traitor*ahem*  The coach of the Jets Eric Mangini is expected to get the axe today.

ESPN reports:

Eric Mangini is out as head coach of the New York Jets, 1050 ESPN Radio and various other New York media outlets are reporting.

Mangini and the Jets missed out on the playoffs after losing to Miami on Sunday. The Jets lost four of their last five games to finish 9-7.

The Jets are scheduled for a 10 a.m. ET news conference. Mangini is not expected to attend.

Mangini, 37, was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets, including 0-1 in the playoffs.

This season, the Jets acquired Brett Favre before the season started and ran off to an 8-3 start. But losses to Denver, at San Francisco, at Seattle and Sunday to the Dolphins left New York on the outside of the playoffs for the second straight season.

So much for the Mangenius.

The look on his face yesterday during the game said it all

This was a man who knew it was over, and not just the game or the season.

Keep the faith!

Maybe they can hire Dick Jauron

If the Bills are smart, they’ll fire their horrifically overrated coach too. Of course, given their history post-Marv Levy, they’d just hire another underachiever.

Why the Jets will always fail.

Fire the coach that built their recent success, but keep the QB who shat it all away.

Smart.

I’m grateful, don’t get me wrong. Jets fans are the lowest form of life. And Mangina is not a great coach by any stretch. But he’s better than anyone they’ve had. Favre had a horrible, horrible second half (after an average-at-best first half), and positively killed the Jets over the last month. It was almost funny watching him yesterday — and would have been hilarious had the Pats’ hopes not rested on the decision-making skills of this incredibly dumb footballer.

And just to pile on: am I the only one who thinks Favre looks like he might be homeless? Give that guy a bottle in a brown bag and a greasy blanket to throw over his shoulders, and he’d be indistinguishable from a guy in a box under the Manhattan Bridge overpass.

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

Hopefully this will keep McDaniels under the Belichick’s tutelage for a few more years. Those last two branches didn’t do too well when they broke off.
