Season Perspective

I'm sure my thoughts are sentiments that have already been echoed, but I wanted to post them.

I think it is a tragedy to finish the season 11-5 and not make the playoffs. As a Colts fan I feel the same way about traveling to the West Coast as a 12-4 team to play an 8-8 team. But missing the postseason at 11-5 just seems wrong.

I think your team has had an amazing season. Coach Belichick gained some respect in my eyes as a coach this season. He is easy to hate as a rival team, but I have always considered him the most important individual on the team. This year concreted that in my mind. What he accomplished despite the injuries is remarkable, and it may have been his greatest coaching performance ever this season.

This season the Pats reminded me of the year Brady first started. Truthfully, had you made the playoffs, a super bowl run would seem like a strong possibility. I would not want the Colts to have to march into Foxboro and play the Patriots!

Anyhow, it has been an admirable season, and I am truly sorry about the postseason. It doesn't seem right.

Thanks, coltsfanwalt

Good of you to come over and post your thoughts. Yeah, it is a bummer, but we had a very competitive division this year and, frankly, didn’t win the games we should have. If there’s any good that can come out of the bad it’s that our core starters get a break. I think the last several years have taken their toll.

Thanks again.

Interesting point.

Neither of our squads have had much of a rest postseason with all the playoff appearances. I believe the Colts already had the record for the most consecutive postseasons entering this year, but the Patriots have stayed alive in the playoffs the longest over the past decade.

I have heard coaches, including Dungy, say that the super bowl run took a toll to some extent on the players rest for the following season. That fact only makes back to back super bowls more impressive, but it makes me wonder how the extra rest could benefit for a change.

Dude

Just crush Marmalard Rivers and the ’Bolts, ’mkay? Good luck the rest of the way.

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

No doubt.

I can’t stand Phillip Rivers.

nice post

Funny when you think of how close the regular season Pats-Colts game was, the way Manning has healed and Cassel has found confidence since that time… a post-season meeting between the two would have been another outstanding matchup, especially with both teams finishing strong in December.

It’s hard not to love this team and be grateful for how they performed in spite of how the season began, and hard not to be disappointed at watching the players pack up and go home. Weird.

Good luck! There’s still a lot of good football ahead, we’ll just get to watch this time without the pressure.

Keep the faith!
