2008 Pats Season

Well, it looks like the draft actually played into our hands pretty well.  I've just had a look at our schedule and I'm going to go ahead and give a conservative regular season win estimate of 14.  Just like last year, I don't see a single game that we shouldn't win.  I really wish the powers that be would allow us to play Indianapolis in Foxboro for once.  Anyways, no big deal.  My overall prediction for this season is:

Regular Season Record: 14-2 or 15-1

Overall Record: 17-2 or 18-1 AND Super Bowl Champions in both cases

oh, one more thing

Tom Brady is gonna be lookin’ to kill some folk. By that I just mean that there will be merciless offense all season conducted by one of the sport’s all-time greats.

Gonna be fun

I think there will be less pressure this year. We’ve proven we can beat everyone last year. Spygate has faded somewhat, but there is still a burning desire to torch the league given how much disrespect we get.

I expect our offense will be as potent as it was before, and if these rookies learn fast we may actually stop the run this year!

The pressure will be there

relentlessly building at least until we lose a regular season game. Spygate hasn’t faded one iota. It’s out there right on the surface and I have a feeling that the boos will greet us wherever we travel, no matter what Matt Walsh’s “evidence” (or lack thereof) proves to be. And I LOVE this team! It’s totally bizarre.

Seriously I don’t think there’s a single game on the schedule that we couldn’t win, and we were even speculating during the draft on what would happen if we began this season again at 10-0. Could you imagine that roller-coaster starting up again? It would be much more difficult to accomplish this year, as we won’t be catching any team off guard and everyone will be coming at us hard. Add to that the teams either trying to avenge last year’s losses or just trying to take down the best, and it could turn into every game being on a playoff level as was the case in 2007.

Keep the faith!

Wow, you think 14 wins is conservative? The Patriots schedule is pretty easy but jesus. Give the other teams a little more credit than that.

Fair point KR

Possibly a little hubris on our part considering we have most of our core starters back and our draft picks look like their filling some weak spots. However, when looking at the Pats 2007 season, my opinion is 1) we got out of the starting gate faster than most, evidenced by the ridiculous differences in scores and 2) other than a 46 point trouncing of the Bills, teams appeared to be catching up. That is, no blowouts.

I’m more in the 12 or 13 win range for the regular season. Some of it’s actually HOPING for some regular season losses. As stupid as it may sound, I think it keeps teams honest. I’m not suggesting that was the reason for the SB loss, but I’m just saying.

Chiefs

Would it look suspicious if they threw the Chiefs a game, just to take the pressure off

Who could/should beat us?

If we lose, i would expect the following teams to be responsible:

Chargers
Colts
Steelers

Of course, you can lose any given Sunday, as we nearly learned in Baltimore, but I just don’t get scared from any other teams on our schedule.

Of course, before the super bowl loss our previous loss was to the Dolphins, so I think it’s fair to give 2 games up to the rest of the schedule. If Tom has a bad day it’s hard to win (although that might be less true if Maroney peaks this year)

So I’d say worst case we go 11-5. I however expect 13-3.

I just found it pretty funny that PaulRevere was laying claim that the Patriots are just going to steamroll through their schedule again and win the Lombardo Trophy with the draft still fresh in everyones mind. Claiming a team is automatically going to win 14+ games and a Super Bowl after the devastating loss the Patriots suffered in the greatest season that never was is just laughable. I mean, how many more slaps to the face does it take to ground some of you Patriots fans?

Fyi, the Bills are going to be a pretty good team this year. Granted they were 8-8 last season, but that doesn’t matter. They made a lot of key acquisitions this off-season. Even the Jets are going to improve. The last thing you ever want to do is ride teams off like they are an easy win.

Speaking of the past is a moot point. It doesn’t matter that the second to last loss the Patriots had was two years ago against the Phins. That has no bearing on this season, and the players certainly don’t give two craps about it. So using that point to support your belief that the Patriots are going to kick some ass is just dumb.

My team was a helmet catch away from a 19-0 season. I’ll be as cocky as a like thank you very much. We defeated all the best teams. If we start this season 0-2, then I will reconsider. Losing the superbowl did not expose us as a bad team, it exposed the Giants as a really good one.

I admit you don’t want to underestimate anybody, but I am a fan, and not a player, so my opinions don’t really have any effect.

The Bills were actually 7-9, and had a net pts of -102. I will admit they are good when they actually win a convincing game against a contender. They did no such thing last year. The only bright spot was the loss to Dallas, but they gave that one away.

So don’t lecture me about being dumb. There is no sound reason to think the Bills will beat us this year, other than saying ‘the past doesn’t matter’, which pretty much makes discussing the matter pointless.

haha
The Patriots were a helmet catch away from being the greatest team ever, according to their fanbase and ESPN. Funny part is that didn’t happen. With all of the bullshit most of you guys were spewing all season long about how they had the greatest offense ever, greatest this, greatest that. You would think you would have learned your lesson and practice watch you preached. Humble pie ring a bell? Guess not.

You shouldn’t rely on being proven wrong to sway you from your self-righteous and close-minded opinions. But hey, if you want to look foolish, more power to ya.

Btw, most people outside of the New England area already know the Giants were a good team. What they did to the Patriots in the Super Bowl was inevitably knock off the king of the hill. I saw it coming a mile away.

I admit you don’t want to underestimate anybody, but I am a fan, and not a player, so my opinions don’t really have any effect.

That’s a great mentality! Screw everyone else, I’m a fan, I can do what I want. Wow.

Seriously? I don’t remember ever calling you dumb. And another thing, why are you taking everything I said as a personal attack when I never once called you out on anything?

I never once said the Bills are going to beat the Patriots. All I’m trying to say is they are making a lot of good moves and will most likely improve next year. Is it really that hard to understand? Sheesh.

Come on...

...if you can’t voice your extremely optimistic views on your own team’s FAN BLOG, when can you? Supporting your team and being enthusiastic about it on a site that attracts like-minded readers doesn’t translate into “screw everyone else”; it just means you think your own team is great. What’s the problem?

Keep the faith!

That’s not what you people were doing.

Speaking as a Bills Fan

I can’t realistically expect Buffalo to beat the Pats or come close to winning the AFC East this year; but I do believe the Bills are starting to close the gap. And I ‘m throwing this out on your site only because I think this actually helps the Patriots. Only a few years back the AFC East was among the most competive in the NFL, something akin to the NFC East nowadays. There was a time not long ago you couldn’t even overlook a bad dolphins team in the regular season. I don’t think having the Bills, Jets, and ‘phins roll over on your team game after game does you any good. In a stronger AFC East, a 12-4 Patriots might actually be better than the 18-0 Patriots of last year.

Actually I don’t know why I’m throwing myself into this thread. Whatever. Back to work. Peace.

I hear ya

And I agree. It doesn’t do any team any good having an uncompetitive team in their division…hey, we’ve been there and remember it well.

Fans of a team can’t state their opinions on how many games they are going to win??
If I’ve read correctly, a post on StampedeBlue says that the Colts are going to win 13 games and a possible SB visit - why weren’t you all over this person?? Maybe because you believe it too, they are afterall, your team. You talk about the Patriots and their devastating loss - what about the Colts and their loss - against a backup quarterback AND a backup running back no less , can’t get much more devastating than that - and yet one of your fellow compadres predicted a 13-3 season. Please, explain your reasoning—we are all ears.

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is 'God is crying.' And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is 'Probably because of something you did.'

I hid your post because of the tone and vulgarity. Note to everyone: I can’t stand hiding posts as I appreciate everyone’s point of view and what they add, but if you can’t make your point without venoumous invective and cussing, you leave me no choice.
