New England Patriots Links for 6/8/08
ESPN has a great article on Jerod Mayo and his possible ascension to Tedy Bruschi's spot once the NE legend retires.
Mike Reiss has 5 mini-camp observations , including FA safety Tank Williams intercepting a Brady to Faulk pass.
Again from Reiss, a lengthy interview with Tom Brady . In this interview, Tom talks about losing the Super Bowl, his ankle, and off season goings on.
In news around the league , Raiders's rookie holdout Darren McFadden signs a six year $60m deal. Call me crazy, but this is just nuts. No offense to Darren, but he hasn't played a second on the field. It's insulting to the vets, in my opinion.

Misinterpretations...
I thought it would be fun to point out that the AP completely misinterpreted Tom’s comments regarding his ankle and turned it into a headline saying “Tom Brady still slowed by ankle injury”. Yahoo, ESPN, and CBS have all run the story with similar headlines, though ESPN later completely changed the story when they realized it was wrong without making ANY mention of their tiny little error. Here is the link to the CBS story, still unchanged (could change or be removed by the time you click this link, though).
Taking a page out of Roger Goodell’s book, I would have to say that I completely disagree with the AP reporter’s interpretation of Tom Brady’s comments, and therefore believe it’s only fair that he is fined $500,000 and his employer $250,000 for this completely false and misleading report. This infraction cannot go unpunished =P
Anyway… I agree wholeheartedly on the McFadden thing. The rookie contracts are out of control.

Contracts
It’s just nuts. In my opinion, losing teams with deep pockets and desperate for talented players, will pay anything to welcome aboard a gifted college athlete. They’ll take the risk because they have nothing to lose other than money. Teams that players WANT to be on don’t seem to experience the same issues; at least, that’s my subjective opinion.

It's a bad cycle
for losing franchises. They really need to make a rookie salary cap or something.
