Patriots Fantasy Depth Chart
Can Tom Brady reward his fantasy owners with another record breaking season? There's no doubt about his fantasy value and where he should be drafted, but there are many more Patriots to choose to help your fantasy team.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS FANTASY DEPTH CHART
Key:
PTR = Position Tier Rank. This is the tier level where the player should be slotted in drafts.
1 = Elite Player.
2 = Solid Performer
3 = Backend starter/Bench fill-in
4 = Roster filler or long-term prospect
0 = No value
ITR = In The Rotation
PB = Position Battle
S = Starter
QB PTR
Tom Brady – S 1
Matt Cassel 3
Kevin O’Connell 4
Matt Gutierrez 4
Summary: We all know Brady is great and will be a top pick in everyone’s draft. Last year's record breaking 50 TD performance is reason enough. One word of caution however. It wouldn’t be beyond Coach Bill Belichick to try and screw with everyone and run the ball much more this season then last, to keep defenses honest. Just don't expect a repeat of 2007.

No arguement here...
...that the RBs will be used alot more than last year. NE has to change things up this year; you saw teams catching up a bit in the last half of the year. However, I would like to know how your PTR is calculate as I disagree with a few of the predictions. Welker a 2? C’mon, I have Colts fans telling me they’re gonna snatch him as fast as they can! Sure, he doesn’t put up yardage like Moss, but he’s the chain mover. Look at the number of receptions vs. TD passes and you’ll see.
As far as running backs, you can’t necessarily choose the starter as a 1. Morrison looked great until he got injured and Faulk is one of the best 3rd down backs around. Plus, he can catch like a mofo.
Instead of who “starts”, people should be looking at how many snaps a player plays and they’re success based on how impactful they are on the field.

Of course
This is fantasy football and the rules are different. Yardage, points, etc…

Personally, I don't believe
the passing game stats would have been as spectacular if Sammy Morris had stayed healthy, because until he went out with his chest injury, the offense was in the top 3 in the league in rushing. I also believe that is why the games in the second half of the year got tighter because we were pretty much a one dimension offense. If Morris and Maroney can stay healthy all season, either of them could turn out to be a great dark horse fantasy pick.
Then again, if Brady is up for Scorched Earth 2, and I feel sure he will be, then last year may just have been a launching point for what is to come this year.
I know that if I could have the first 3 picks in a fantasy draft, they would be Brady, Moss and Welker in that order. Just imagine the points they’re going to put up this year.
Just my .02 worth.

My bad
I said Morrison, didn’t I. Ugghh. At any rate, all good points Ironman63, especially the stat regarding Top 3 for rushing. I’ve always thought Morris was the more productive running back, but Maroney seems to have Belichick’s confidence. Who am I to argue, but I’d like to see more of Sammy.

Good points
Welker is on the border of being a 1, (elite player). In leagues which reward points per reception, his value inreases and may elevate him to a 1. Faulk’s value also increases considerably in these leagues. The backfield is stll muddled as far until playing time will be further defined, but both Maroney and Morris will probably split the TDs if both stay healthy for the season. Faulk does not get TD opportunities. Gaffney could be a mid to late round sleeper pick.
