Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

A little confused

"Under orders from Roger Goodell to resolve their impasse with Brett Favre, the Green Bay Packers have begun making calls about their former franchise QB, according to online reports.

Goodell talked to Packers GM Ted Thompson, who confirmed the team was ready to move on without Favre. Goodell asked Thompson to begin exploring the market for the disgruntled QB, acccording to WEAU 13, an NBC television affiliate in Wisconsin.

The report also says Goodell told Thompson that he will reinstate Favre as an active player, should he make the request and that the commissioner has also spoken to Favre and promised his assistance."

What right does Goodell have in telling a team how to handle a contract issue?? I do not understand where Goodell can actually order a team to resolve an issue that basically comes down to wanting to be traded...

What's next?? A player wants more money and Goodell orders the team to honor his request??

It doesn't smell right to me either

Goodell is definitely more of a hands-on commish than was his predecessor, but it isn’t right in singling out a particular player to favor with his position of authority, no matter if it is the Great Brett Favre involved. The Packers offered Favre a position in the organization as backup to Rogers, which in my opinion does no favors for either of them, but that’s their right.

Unless Goodell prepares to step in on all contract negotiations, he shouldn’t be offering Favre anything he wouldn’t give the “Duane Starks” of the League.

The Packers might be blaming Goodell

so they can back down from the hardline they intially took with Favre without looking dumb.

Goodell involvement

I believe Goodell doesn’t necessarily have a leg to stand on from a policy standpoint, but he’s trying to act in the best interests of Favre, the Packers, and the NFL. This thing has already blown up way too much and it can only get worse. Heck, Favre was stupid enough to call members of the Vikings front office on a Packers issued cell phone. I’d like to say this is as dumb as dumb can get, but I’ve been wrong about that before.

My .02

Who cares about his “rights?” I bet he’s just as f*cking sick of this as the rest of the football-loving universe, and he’s using the bully pulpit to try to hasten the end of our suffering. Good for him, because this has gone from merely annoying to way past pathetic and right on into Britney Spears territory.

ENOUGH!
