Lamont Jordan signed..
Looks like the Pats are looking for some insurance in case anyone gets hurt again this year. With Sammy Morris injured last year, Maroney injured off and on his entire career, and the suppporting cast trying to make up the difference --- I leave Kevin Faulk out because he is a Jack of all trades and is too versatile to list as just your run of the mill running back -- I believe the Pats are looking to secure their backfield. Jordan was a decent enough back-up for the Jets but never really made a splash with the Raiders ... Here's to hoping the Pats eke out whatever life he has left in those legs of his. Maybe they'll use him more along the fullback lines and have him blow through the line for Faulk, Maroney, or Morris. Orrrr they could cut him at the end of camp. Who knows what the evil genius is up to....

"The New England Patriots signed veteran running back LaMont Jordan on Saturday, a day after he was released by the Oakland Raiders.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Raiders were unable to trade Jordan and released him Friday."

Running Backs
I think this gives us some needed depth in this positon, as you suggest. Jordan is 5-10 230 lbs – a big dude with a low center of gravity. As you also suggest, he may see duty as a blocking back or possibly fullback to backup Evans. At any rate, I think it shows an investment by Belichick in the running game. He’s now carrying 5 backs (not counting UFA BenJarvus).

Interesting
He was on my fantasy team last year, and did really well until he got injured.

my thought...
I see us using him as an alternative to a blocking TE/FB. He can block, can run, and can catch passes. I think if we line him up as a FB/TE, it will create even more fits for the defense. Just imagine this line-up and try to figure out a defense: Moss, Welker, Watson, Jordan, Maroney out of the Strong-I.

That's quite the lineup
Moss on the seam, Welker in the slot or underneath, Watson for the option, Jordan for the option or running or blocking, Maroney running. You’re a sick person. ;-)

Thanks
I appreciate the Props on the main page :-D. I am excited about this signing! The other day I was trying to come up with a final roster divvy. Could we really keep 5 RBs, and 4 WRs? This signing is great in the terms of versatility, and I love what Jordan brings to the table. I am just curious at who we cut to keep him. I think Kyle Eckle, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis got a little nervous about their roster spots when he was signed.

FBs
I’d be surprised if we keep 2 FBs (Eckle and Evans) as well as Jordan, given that LaMont can play in that space, too.

Agreed 100%
Of the two, I think we drop Eckle. I like the guy, but he isn’t as good as Evans in the FB role.

damn...
I hit return a little too fast on that post. But assuming we keep 25 Offensive players this year(+/- 1 has been BB’s trend over the past couple of years), here is what I think the breakout will be:
QBs – 3
RB – 5 (1 being FB)
WR – 5
TE – 3
O-Line:
Center – 2
Guard – 3
Tackle – 4
The only real changes I see in this would be a potential to drop a TE and add another o-line versatility type player.

He's one big dude
We sardine-packed the minivan and headed off to camp for this morning’s practice. The Pats were in shorts and T’s with their only identification being some itty-bitty numbers on the bottom front hem of their shorts and whatever dreadlocked or braided hairstyle we could recognize. We didn’t have binoculars, but we sure picked out LaMont Jordan without any help. The guy is HUGE!
Keep the faith!

Straight from the mouth of a former Jet - Raider...
Gotta love LaMont Jordan’s sentiments regarding joining the hated Patriots:
“As soon as I was available, my agent called me and told me that he had spoken with the Patriots and that they wanted me to fly up,” Jordan said yesterday after practice. “That put a smile on my face.“It’s a great feeling. I definitely know what I’m stepping into, coming to a winning organization and I just want to get in here, make the team, and do my part and ultimately get this team back to the top.”
“I don’t think about the past. I can’t get bitter or worry about the past. I know right now I’m waking up in the morning and putting on a Patriots uniform. I know I’m very enthusiastic about that.“When I really sat down and looked at the body of work that the organization has done, you can’t help but accept the fact that they’re just great players that come through here that have worn this uniform.
Just goes to show the REAL feelings of players around the league about the New England Patriots!
Keep the faith!

It kind of figures
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. But until you get an offer to join ‘em, you’re going to be jealous and hate ‘em.

Just goes to show ya...
...never badmouth opposing teams; they could end up looking to hire you some day and folks have long memories. Ya think Joey Porter would ever get a crack at the Pats after his tirade about Spygate?

hahah
You know what I thought about that during the whole year of Spygate BS. Come on, you all KNOW BB holds a grudge. None of the players that talked badly about the Spygate stuff will ever be welcome by him.

Oh, I don't know
I could see him bringing one of them in for a workout, only to have them humiliated by the guys who are already here.

Actually
I laughed when I heard Porter. That guy wants a ring so bad I bet he tastes gold in his mouth from sun-up to sun-down. If the Pats came knocking, he’d sign on the line and change his tune.
It’s a business, run by pimps, played by whores.
You’ve got to love it for what it is…
