S John Lynch looked suited up.

Doesn’t mean anything, but I’d like to see him get a few reps.

Greetings from the Univ. of Tennessee

How’s Jerod Mayo looking? We at Rocky Top Talk are really hoping for great things from him at the NFL. Shame I don’t have a TV on hand, though.

by David Hooper on Aug 17, 2008 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

He's looking real good

He was supposed to be eased into the system, but may end up as a starting ILB. I like Jerod a lot.

Good to hear.

We, in our homerish ways, always figured he’d do well. But you have a much better idea of how he fits into the Pats system than I do.

The funny thing is that most UT fans pull for the Colts because of Manning. Having Mayo at NE has caused some divided loyalties and some frustration. All in good fun, though; playing is better than not playing.

by David Hooper on Aug 17, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

If you're gonna have a rivalry...

…Pats vs. Colts isn’t a bad one to be in the middle of. Always fun.

Fun for outsiders, too.

I grew up a Broncos fan, so it’s been quite the ride watching that one. I worry a bit that the MSM will kill the rivalry by overplaying it, but the games have been very entertaining to watch.

Best on best.

To be fair, he is in an ideal situation.

NE obviously develops players very well. They’re pretty solid across the board, so a new player isn’t asked to cover for a lot of weaknesses around him. He also has several great veteran LBs teaching him the ropes. Those vets seem to be the type to pass on their trade rather than try to hold a challenger back. All in all, Mayo couldn’t have asked for more.

But still, kudos to him for taking advantage of the opportunity.

Patrick Willis

was a beast last year. But it’s hard to match that kind of production
