Postgame Thread: Patriots defeat Jets, 19-10
Very cool. Extremely conservative, but effective. I'm sure it's until Matt gets his legs under him. 2 wins should help. Fire away.

I think it is safe to say
That we won’t be seeing as many blow outs as we did last year.

Heh. Yeah. Back to reality.
As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

BB is letting the rest of the team play
No reason for our new starting QB to carry the team on his back. Hobbs and Jordan were money all day. The running game was key here.

Up and down.
I thought, overall, he did pretty well. Has a tendency to either fire too soon or hold it too long. Sometimes got happy feet, other times looked very comfortable in the pocket—when there was one.
The long misfire to Moss was an interesting play. He saw it—but not as quickly as Brady would have (and I feel pretty comfortable saying that). That was one of the plays that Moss and Brady worked to perfection because they would have been on the same play instantly. Moss saw that the corner was going to take inside technique, and knew he had him beat long within three stride from the LOS. It took Cassel about 15 yards to see it, then jerked the trigger which brought the pass up a little short. (It hit Randy in the chest and was a clean drop.) With more practice together, they may — may — get to the point of being able to pull that off with the same seamlessness that #12 did.
He was things mostly well, from my POV. The missed TD to Thomas was a good example—small window, maybe could have put a little more loft on the throw, but the OLB made a great play to tip it. If he doesn’t, that’s a TD.
So, overall, I think he played pretty well but there’s still plenty of room for improvement. If the running game continues to be productive, we’ll have a decent season.

i think the more he plays the more of a vibe he will get with the team.
randy and tom had a good bond, i hope it translates to matt c.
wes and matt seem to sync up well

The big key for him--
and this will improve as the season progresses— is to not get too high or too low. The coaches were notably careful of his psychology. They’re doing everything they can to keep the pressure light (at least from them, during the game). The more even (in control of himself) he can be, the more strategic of a leader he can become with his team.

Are you kidding me?!?!
Outstanding game. Unbe-cassel-lievable! No turnovers, unliked the great BF. Great effort all around…especially LaMont Jordan and that MONSTER PLAY by Adalius Thomas! We are so psyched around here!
Keep the faith!

It wasn't pretty...
but it was a win. Go Pats. Nice job Matty Cassel… no interceptions yet and he scored enough for us to win and that’s all that matters. Whether you win by 40 or by 1 you still win.

Yeah. Honestly, I prefer a blowout. Much easier on my stomach.

you know what...
i really like his story. here is a guy who has just practiced/studied hard for years and years. always the back up. being moved around positions before coming back to QB where he gets to be under tommy b for 4 years AND
now he is the starter for the best team around.
now that is AMAZING!

Line of the Day:
Sammy Morris
8 Carries
0 Yards
1 Touchdown
That’s a points to yards ration of infinity.

Whew!
I have thoughts on two sides of the ball.
1) Do the JETS have REGRETS for nabbing BRETT? I was so tired of hearing about how wonderful Brett Favre was last week against Miami. Uh.. Miami won ONE game last season, and places like SI made it sound like he had just parted the Red Sea. I saw one quote by him where he basically tells everyone to run downfield because, “what the heck.” Maybe he’ll finally retire for good after this season, and he’ll do so poorly that no one will notice that he’s gone. I’m tired of reading his obituary already.
2) It’s interesting that the showed Matt playing in high school because he looked pretty much like a high school quarterback the first half. We won, but frankly I thought he looked absolutely TERRIBLE. He didn’t make any mistakes, but think about it.. He got fricking lucky all those batted balls didn’t land in the Jets’ hands. He used time outs like they were pieces of candy. He seem to be unable to see over the line. He was thrown down once, and I thought they were going to have to cart him off the field because he landed on his knee. Finally, Randy Moss looked PISSED. He had better connect with him on the 10 yard line at least once or twice a game. I don’t care if he isn’t Tom Brady. Matt had better be working hard. He needs to put today behind him and start thinking about Miami or there will be hell to pay. If he doesn’t improve every week like Tom Brady did his first year, then we will be toast. Still, I’d rather have Matt than that self-centered, egotistical, quarterback the Jets have who likes to die every season so he can read his own obituary.
