Brown close to announcing retirement?

Hey folks, this is Fooch, the writer of Niners Nation.  My dad's originally from the Massachusetts so I keep tabs on the Patriots whenever I can.  I certainly won't root for them to beat my 49ers on October 5, but I certainly don't despise them like many people are prone to do.

Anyways, I noticed a story in Boston Herald in which a source close to Troy Brown indicates he's going to announce his retirement shortly.  I realize this is not exactly shocking news, but it's the certainly the end of a quasi-era for the Patriots.  While I don't think Troy Brown was exactly under-appreciated during his career, I do think it's easy for people to gloss over his contributions to the team.  Just the fact that he was willing to play defense for the team, and actually turn out to be pretty decent at it is impressive.

Anyways, I just thought it was worth mentioning as he rides off into the sunset.  The league has plenty of classless guys running around, but Brown was one of the classy guys in this league.

Appreciated

I thought about adding that item to the links page for Friday, but couldn’t do it for the simple reason that it was a John Tomase “unnamed source” article. (If you recall he was the reporter who’s unnamed source told him that the Patriots filmed the Rams walk-through before the Super Bowl.) Once it was confirmed by a reliable source, and you’re right that it wouldn’t be a huge shock around here, we can give the man the accolades and proper send-off he deserves.

Thanks Fooch.

Hey Fooch

Thanks for stopping by and giving a shout out to our man Troy. As far as I’m concerned, he’s a New England icon and one of the classiest guys around. It’d be cool to see him in the NE organization like Andre Tippet.

Looking forward to our matchup on the left coast.

matchup

Should be an interesting matchup. Particularly if J.T. O’Sullivan can prove himself as a real QB. We’ll definitely have to get some inter-site action going on.

Brown is one of my all time favorites

The guy would be playing offense, defense, and special teams all in the same game. And he would make big plays in all three phase’s of the game. No Troy Brown in 2001= No SB Championship.

The road to success is always under construction.

How did Tom Brady put it...?

If you look up the word Patriot, you should see a picture of Troy Brown there.
