Straight off the New England Patriots Team Website...
The New England Patriots announced their 2008 captains today, elected by their teammates this week.
On offense, Brady will serve as an offensive captain for the seventh straight season, having first been elected in 2002. Moss, in his second season with the Patriots after joining the team via trade in April 2007, will serve as a Patriots captain for the first time.
On defense, Bruschi has been a captain every season since first serving in the role in 2002, and is in his seventh season as a Patriots captain. Harrison will serve as a Patriots captain for the fifth time, previously earning the role in four straight seasons from 2003-06. Vrabel will serve as a captain for the fourth straight year after first earning the honor in 2005. Wilfork is a first-time captain in his fifth season since joining the Patriots as a first-round draft choice in 2004.

Football captains
I’ve never understood why football teams have so many captains. I guess one for each group and subgroup?
Does it work like this for all teams?
General Offense-Brady
OLine-Light
backs and receivers-Moss
General Defense-Bruschi
Secondary-Harrison
LB-Vrabel
DLine-Wilfork
Special Teams-Izzo

It's up to the team. I think the Pats go overboard, personally.
As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead
