Belichick Presser: No Simms.

Pretty much laughed my *ss off during this so-called "press conference." Bill is more predictable than the sunrise. Here are the highlights:

Contrary to whatever you may have heard and everything that's been reported, the Patriots have not worked out any other quarterbacks. Not "Hello, Dad? It's Chris" Simms, not Tim Rattay. No one has been given a physical, either. Apparently they've gotten plenty of calls. "I'm not saying it can't happen but we don't have anyone we're planning to work out."

Belichick would not confirm a torn ACL. When asked when Tom will have surgery, he predictably said, "I don't know, whenever the doctors schedule it." "We will do what's best for the football team--we'll do what we always do."

On losing Tom: "He was one player playing one position. He played it very well. Now, we'll have someone else playing that position."

Belichick was asked about the legality of the hit that caused the injury. He said that "we coach our players that it is their responsibility to hit the quarterback between the shoulders and the knees." He then compared the hit on Brady to Wilfork's hit on Loseman, saying that while they aren't the same, they were similar. When pressed, he said, "Any questions on the officiating, talk to the league."

On Cassel and the game plan for the Jets: "I'm confident in all of the players on our team, if I wasn't they wouldn't be here." "We change our gameplan from week to week...whatever we feel like gives us the best chance against the Jets, that's what it will be."

With respect to the reps Matt got in preseason: "You hate to see anybody miss time, but when they do it provides time for somebody else."

When asked what he said to the team about losing Tom, etc.: "What I say to the team is between me and the team, I hope you can respect that." In other words, don't ask them, either. Or, if you prefer: "Ask them whatever you'd like to: I've pre-programmed them and you will get nothing--do you hear me? Nothing!"
