Colts' Dungy to Retire

A source told Foxsports.com that Dungy has talked his decision over with family members and they decided it was the best time for him to step aside. Dungy, the source said, was at the team's complex in Indianapolis on Monday morning saying goodbyes to players and team employees.

Some may say anybody could coach Peyton Manning, but regardless, he's always acted with dignity and won a ton of games so I tip my hat.

Dungy retiring

I’ve had my issues with Coach Dungy (mostly due to my Patriots Homerism), but you are right. He always acted with dignity and was a heck of a coach.

The other Favre

It was becoming an annual event, just like whether or not Favre will retire. Like Favre, Dungy is over-rated. He’s a great coach, but he’s only got one ring to show for it. He really improved the Bucs, but couldn’t get over the hump. He had the best offense for years and it took a long time to get over that hump. I expect elite coaches to pick up some more hardware, especially when they have a roster filled with superstars at the high skill positions.
He usually conducts himself in a classy way (Spygate one of the exceptions). The game needs more guys like him.
I just hope he doesn’t pull a Favre and want to come back in a few months. At least he wouldn’t hold a franchise hostage. Right?

Give me a break

I am a Colts fan, just so you know. Tony Has done this every year for the last 3 years, and the Colts and their fans have been fine with this. He has said he will make his decision and announce it one week after the season is over. And he has done that every year. He will not be back. To compare him with Favre is wrong. Farve has dragged this out every year for weeks and months and is currently sitting in Mississippi making up his mind with NO timetable. Again, he has done what he said he would do in the time frame he said he would.

I only hope both the Colts and Pats can continue their level of excellence for the next 10 years that we have had in the last 10. They were truly epic battles and, I’m sure you would agree, they made the NFL much more entertaining to watch.

Another...

…is that Dungy didn’t hurt his team by the annual retire-or-not ritual. Favre did — and he’s still doing it.

A gentleman

Dungy will be missed in the NFL, and his ‘retirement’ from the league will only be the for the advantage of whatever outside causes he chooses to throw himself behind in the future.

Keep the faith!

Thanks for your kind and well-spoken words.

I have felt very sad today. Coach Dungy was my favorite Colt, period. He is a great man who I know will go on to do great things still.

I always thought Dungy got a raw deal from Tampa

They don’t win their Super Bowl if he doesn’t get them to the precipice.
