Open Game Thread: Patriots @ Broncos

New England Patriots at Denver Broncos, Oct 11, 2009 4:15 PM EDT

Student vs. Teacher.  The chess match begins.  Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the AFL, both teams will be sporting their throwback uniforms.  I love "Pat Patriot" and the jerseys are cool.  Let's see how the backfield-by-committee steps up with yardage leader Fred Taylor sidelined with a bad ankle.  Law Firm anyone?

Ok, let's get a win

I need a pick me up after the Sox game.

That was horrible

After the kind of year Paps had, though, I shouldn’t be surprised he wouldn’t be able to close out a game in the postseason. He was starting to look like he’d worked all that out, and then this.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Bleh

I can’t watch this one, so I guess I’ll be relying on your people’s great descriptions and whatever link I can find on here. Heh. Thanks, people!

by Comedic.Sans on Oct 11, 2009 4:07 PM EDT reply actions

i'm supposed to get it here

But who knows, with last minute regional coverage shifts. Right now I’m just getting studio highlights. Nice to see Matt Cassel hitting Vrabel for a TD the way Brady used to him with the Pats.

Damn

I didn’t think the Denver unis would be that hideous but damn, they are.

Beer is good! And stuff!

by R_Adragna on Oct 11, 2009 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

again with the missed sticks

about 15 yac they’ve gotten on blown tackles already

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

could be a long day

if the D doesn’t start clicking. can’t stop the run or an outside pass right now.

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

well start stopping them

but i seriously doubt we were prepared for the wildcat this game

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 4:21 PM EDT reply actions

NO WHERE

THEY GET NO WHERE

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 4:23 PM EDT reply actions

They got into field goal range

Prater’s not going to miss all the time, even from 48.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions

YAY so now we get the ball in decent position.

but can we capitalize. mapats fan u got the goats ready?

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

wide right!

Even though Prater is my fantasy kicker, I am smiling!

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

Thank goodness

At this point, I have no confidence in Maroney.

I'm 0-4 in Sports since the Pats last win.

I need something to sing about, y’know?

Thanks for the starting drive. Keep it moving!

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

he really does.

we just gtta stop the broncos offense again

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

so offf topic

but hows everybody doing. i’m only here once a week but whats up

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

UW gave it away

The defense deserved to win. The offense and special teams deserve to be with Michigan State instead.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Where do the Pats FIND these guys?

Adam first, now Gostkowski.

They’ve had probably the best kicker for almost a decade now.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

WTF is that?!?

Inexcusable to have to call a timeout right after the other team did.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

short, please

but it looked like he should have gotten it

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions

I really want to push it

But giving up field position here would be dumb.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 4:55 PM EDT reply actions

nice stop on moreno

thought he was gonna dance his way out of that

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 4:59 PM EDT reply actions

Hi

Long time no post. Went to the Big E last week, so I wasn’t here for the Ravens game.

We look good so far. Let’s get this 3rd down stop. : )

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

There you go!

Off the field, Orton! :D

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

Hopefully the Pats flatten today

And I can forgot about what happened to the Red Sox oday. : (

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:03 PM EDT reply actions

HOLY CRAP

Maroney just ran STRAIGHT UP THE MIDDLE

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 5:05 PM EDT reply actions

He did it again!

He thought about dancing outside, but just turned his shoulder up!

What is going on?!

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 5:05 PM EDT reply actions

who is this guy

and what has he done with maroney?

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 5:05 PM EDT reply actions

That's right

Though I believe you get a third if you win the first two. That’s irrelevant here, though, because they lost the first.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Denver's out of challenges now

What’s McDaniels thinking? For three yards?

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 5:09 PM EDT reply actions

No way.

Ball hit the ground and came out.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Welp

I guess this is why I’m here at home while those refs have the best seats in the house.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Inexcusable

Someone ought to smack Mankins upside the head. He’s taking points off the board for us.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 5:14 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah seriously

3 points is still 3 points. This Denver offense doesn’t need an excuse to get pumped up. : \

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:15 PM EDT reply actions

man

Can you imagine paying 50 cents to go see a football game

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

nice pressure

caved the blockers right in

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

AND the roughing the passer? Come on.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:21 PM EDT reply actions

Did somebody hit the Pats with a stupid stick?

Both Mankins and Warren with the moronic penalties. BB should make them run a few hundred laps when they get back to Foxboro.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

good play by Marshall

wish we could have snagged that

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

WTF was that?

It was like Springs was watching the play instead of defending it.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 5:25 PM EDT reply actions

Welker almost messed up.

But did not. Because he is Welker.

Oh no, don’t be hurt!

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 5:35 PM EDT reply actions

Dirty hit

Leading with the helmet.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 5:35 PM EDT reply actions

Told you!

Watson will have a good day. Dun dun dunnn.

by Comedic.Sans on Oct 11, 2009 5:38 PM EDT reply actions

Phew, got the TD

Looking good. We go to halftime up by 10 with the ball in the 2nd half.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 5:39 PM EDT reply actions

I still don't like how the secondary are making the majority of tackles

I’d like to see the big-hitting LBs up there. DJ Williams has the most for the Broncos; it’s Leigh Bodden and Meriweather for the Pats.

by Comedic.Sans on Oct 11, 2009 5:52 PM EDT reply actions

Mayo isn't looking very quick.

If he gets up to speed, I’d expect some more tackles from that group.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

That should've been 20 yards.

Instead it was nearly picked. What’s goin’ on?

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 5:55 PM EDT reply actions

who would of thought

Kyle Orton could carve us up with all this short stuff

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 6:00 PM EDT reply actions

argh

Another run up the middle, another 7 yards.

by jctsai12 on Oct 11, 2009 6:02 PM EDT reply actions

im sensinga brady to moss.
crossing my fingers :D

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 6:12 PM EDT reply actions

Maroney tried to dance.

But got shoved forward by the O-Line.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 6:16 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe that's the way to get him to run

Put in Vollmer as a fullback, hand the ball off the Maroney, hand Maroney off to Vollmer, and have Vollmer run.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Vollmer as a high-diving board?

Short yardage issues? No problem. Toss him in there like a midget in a bar fight.

by Comedic.Sans on Oct 11, 2009 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions

More indecisive running by Maroney

Is he pathologically incapable of running downfield?

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 6:16 PM EDT reply actions

Nice punt coverage....

Just what the doctor ordered. Then again, he also ordered a safety. : )

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

Way to go defense!

The one time you can’t give up the 10 yards you give up the ten yards.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 6:50 PM EDT reply actions

Not enough.

We didn’t take away yards or the ball.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol

Another tip.

AND A FLAG? WHAT?!

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

That's a bullshit call

I mean, yeah, he should be flagged for taunting, but they threw the flag before the taunt!

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 6:58 PM EDT reply actions

Tie game

Way to cough up the lead AGAIN defense.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 6:58 PM EDT reply actions

score

score score score score score

I'm sorry I said anything

But this is Brady’s time now.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 7:03 PM EDT reply actions

it is not an option. we will score

by MOSS81 on Oct 11, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!

THAT’S THE BEST YOU CAN DO ON A CRUCIAL THIRD?!

Who the HELL are you?! That’s not Tom Brady!

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

Welker

Needs to turn his butt around. THat was right to him.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Right to his foot maybe.

Brady can’t lead his receivers anymore.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure

If by “right to him” you mean “thrown behind him in the general direction of his feet.”

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Ok Brady

Get em right here, right now.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

A stop here would be big.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 7:18 PM EDT reply actions

I'm gonna say it before the coin flip:

The overtime rules suck. No matter what they SUCK

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

Unless we win

Then they’re just stupid.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

We'd better win the coin toss

I’d say try the bomb, but I don’t trust Brady right now.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

You gotta admit

Our defense has come through the last two drives. Endless props to them.

by Tai on Oct 11, 2009 7:21 PM EDT reply actions

Fuck

They get the ball and we have a porous defense.

by Ben Buchanan on Oct 11, 2009 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

We lose the toss

that doesn’t want to win a football game today, and it ain’t Denver.

Warm up the Duck Boats!!!

by BabeParilli on Oct 11, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Denver has

been a surprise.

But we have issues, and they need addressing. I have not seen much fire from this bunch all season, and it is very apparent this game. This was well in hand, and they just let Denver out desire them.

Warm up the Duck Boats!!!

by BabeParilli on Oct 11, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

what happend to brady?

this one is all on brady. Brady lost this game for us. how many times did he over throw his recievers.

no brady couldn’t help the defense. where the hell is his head? not in the ball game thats for sure.

by NEFOOL on Oct 11, 2009 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah brady wasn't too good

but it’s a team effort, and they lost as a team. that’s my mentality.

by patriotguy2 on Oct 11, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions

What Tuesday's practice should look like:

Brady and Moss need to practice the deep ball until they can connect 20 times in a row.

Mankins, Meriwether, and Warren need to run laps until they vomit. Then they need to run some more.

Maroney needs to come down with a phantom injury so he can be put out his misery on IR.

The entire defense needs to run tackling drills. All damn day.

by RSNexile on Oct 11, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

BB needs

to light a fire under these guys asses. And Brady is a shadow of his former self – so far.

Things had better change fast or last year’s 11-5 will seem like nirvana.

Warm up the Duck Boats!!!
