Week 6 Power Rankings
National Football Post ranks them 9th (-5): Where has the big play gone for Tom Brady and Randy Moss?
USA Today ranks them 9th (-5): Tom Brady had never lost an overtime game before week 5.
ProFootball Weekly ranks them 9th (-4): No shame in Mile High loss.
Yahoo! Sportss ranks them 9th (-3): If Randy Moss has as many catches on offense as he does as a Hail Mary defender, is it a sign that he might not be playing as hard as he could be?
The Sporting News ranks them 9th (-3): Losing to the Broncos stung, but they have a chance to get well against the Titans.
Fox Sports ranks them 9th (-3): THE BRIGHT SIDE: New England has faced one of the NFL's tougher schedules thus far, and though Tom Brady is still shaking off the rust the Patriots have solid wins over the Falcons and Ravens under their belts.
THE FLIP SIDE: Neither side of the ball has looked altogether inspiring, with Brady missing several open receivers and the running game a mystery. Losing stud lineman Matt Light will not help .
Peter King at SI ranks them 9th (-2): Underrated injury of the weekend: With the Patriots trying to add to a 17-10 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter at Denver, left tackle Matt Light hurt his right knee and had to be helped from the field. The Patriots can survive Light's absence against Tennessee and Tampa Bay the next two weeks, but they'll need to get him well during the bye week. Their five games in 29 days post-bye: Dolphins, at Colts, Jets, at Saints, at Dolphins ... good pass-rushers in every one of those games.
CBS Sports ranks them 10th (-3): One of the glaring things that showed up against the Broncos was their lack of a pass rush. They have to be better there -- or they can forget about a Super Bowl.
ESPN ranks them 10th (-4): Tom Brady is out of sync with his receivers, but no secondary is more out of sync than that of the Titans, who are the Pats' next foe.
Don Banks ranks them 10th (-3): Though they've become somewhat ordinary on the road this season in starting 0-2, the Patriots are 3-0 at home and nobody's running away with anything in the AFC East. After a rough four-week stretch against some tough defenses (Jets, Falcons, Ravens and Broncos), New England should fatten up a bit against a demoralized Titans defense that has slumped to 29th in points (27.8) and 23rd in yards (363.0).
WEEI ranks them 11th (-6): The Patriots’ success lies in the hands of Tom Brady. Patriots fans still are waiting for Brady to get on the same page with his receivers. Brady needs a few more games to get into his groove, and he is playing the perfect opponent to help him get back to being the MVP caliber quarterback he was in ‘07. The Patriots play the Titans and the Bucs next before they go into their bye week.
What If Sports ranks them 14th (-10)
AVERAGE RANK: 9.83 (-4.37)

14th? Really?
They lost to an undefeated team in overtime and that means they’re a middle of the pack squad? I find that hard to believe and justify.

Yeah, I know it’s only one ranking, but still.

Dropping 10 places to get to 14, too
Sliiiiiiightly strange, considering it was an overtime shootout that, given NFL rules, is pretty much down to a toss of the coin anyway. Meh. It might just be an indication that 4-through-16 or so are all on pretty much the same level. Or it might mean they were drunk when they wrote it and threw darts at numbers to ascertain rankings.

But it's based off the depth chart!
“Are New England running a 3-4 or 4-3?” “Well… umm… does not compute”
Minus a DT, add an MLB… I smell more 3-4. Guess that might throw the calculations out a little.

Or programmer bias
if (Team == NEW_ENGLAND) // Lousy SOBs beat my pathetic team, I’ll fix them
{
Rank -= 10;
}
The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

Under the circumstances,
rating them any higher would be ludicrous.
