Patriots set franchise records

I am not delusional.  This game was against a team who's struggling mightily this year.  Be that as it may, the records still hold some value as Brady was connecting with his receivers.  Was it a lack of a viable pass rush against Tom Brady?  Maybe.  It could be a lot of things.  The records still stand, though.

  • 59 points
  • 619 total yards
  • Brady's 6 touchdown passes tied a franchise record

Some other noteworthy factoids:

  • 45 points in the first half, first team since 2002
  • NFL best 29-12 in games following a loss since Belichick took over in 2000

What did this game show?

It showed Brady getting his deep threat ball back, especially in terrible conditions. I’ll take our running game’s performance with a grain of salt, but Brady’s deep ball is enormous.

In the past games, his miscues on the long passes haven’t been a fault of the receivers, nor have they really been broken up. It’s just been a matter of Brady overthrowing the receivers and just being on a different level from his receiver. If he truly has his deep threat back, and his accuracy was phenomenal, then our offense can begin to get back on track.

WOOOW

To be honest… I thought Manning did a good job on the Titans, real good job, but what TB did to the Titans was so masterful, its like kind of comparing a student to a professor, in my opinion he made Manning look small like he did many times before. All in a little more than HALF A GAME.

can't wait for next week!

if we play like we did against the titans, maybe europe will become more of american football fans than soccer. (although i played soccer pretty much all of my life).

Records are nice

Most of the records beaten were also put up against crappy teams; that’s just the way it is. The great thing is, before sunday I didn’t think the Patriots could put up such a show against anybody, so it still shows us something.

This game doesn’t make the Patriots elite, but combined with good first halves against Baltimore and Denver, they are really improving.

Elite?

Meh. The Giants were supposedly elite before they got put to the sword by the Saints. The Titans were supposedly elite before the season started – remember when people thought they’d be a playoff contender? The Jets and Sanchize were supposedly a Superbowl lock – “Giants versus Jets, buy your tickets now!” etc.

That ‘elite’ label gets thrown around a lot, and means very little. Wins and losses mean all, even if they’re ugly.

I agree

The elite label is used too much, especially at the beginning of the season. I also agree that ugly wins are still wins and that at the end of the day only the results matter. I was merely suggesting, that we should not be too optimistic because of this game, just like the sky wasn’t falling because of the Broncos game. We are pretty good and we are continually improving IMO.

good point

on the word elite being used in the first quarter of the season – unless it applies to the reigning Super Bowl champs which have earned their right to claim it.

Keep the faith!

We Won!

Finally Rany Moss got it that he was supposed to catch the ball!

Too bad the Patriots didn’t run up the score!!

Wonder why no other quarterback has been able to do what Tom Brady did against any team, including the Titans this year!

by WeWon! on Oct 19, 2009 8:45 AM EDT reply actions

Don't look at this game too much

1. Maroney still dances
2. There was no pass defense
3. Vollmer didn’t let anybody get to Brady did he and the one thing that is known about this titan’s defense is they can get to the QB. Not much else but that is big and adds more value to Vollmer’s performance.
4. If we win out then I place value on this game as the offense finally findings it’s groove bec the defense was that bad!
5.) we still need a legit 3rd receiver.
