Let the crying begin

Across the blogosphere.  Internet coaches, armchair quarterbacks, and the "I used to play (insert high school or college football reference.), will be lambasting the Patriots organization, Bellichick, and Brady for doing what they get paid to do , play professional football.  Alot of the babies will be saying how "unclassy" the team is, how they were unsportsmanlike for "running the score up", or how Bellichick should've pulled Brady well before his 5th touchdown pass.  Let me state, these people are morons!  Blah, blah, blah.  Play pro football.  Coach pro football.  Hell, even be married to a pro football player.  Then come talk to me.  You will never know what it's like to play on a field in front of thousands of fans who would boo you and cheer you in the same breadth.  The team needed this.  Kind of like letting off the biggest buildup of steam ever accumulated.  Brady needed it.  Moss needed it.  Maroney needed it. The defense needed it.  And yes, I think even Bellichick needed this.  Anyone who derides the Pats for absolutely embarassing the Titans last night is a schmuck.  Give Jeff Fisher a call, he'll probably thank the Pats for doing it.  Players get played to play.  Not to lighten up because they're opponent sucks.   It's football people.  these guys get paid millions to produce, they get paid millions to suck too.

Agreed on all counts

I did a bit of lurking late last night and while there were occasional voices of reason (c’mon, Brady didn’t play the whole third quarter – he played only the first series. A total of 35 minutes), the crybabies drowned them out.

Some blogs have hit a point I think, where to give Belichick or Brady any credit whatsoever – even one single word – equates to blasphemy and an insult to their own team. To say, “Brady and the offense played well” or to simply ask, “what was New England supposed to do when the Titans kept handing them the ball?” was enough to get them hammered and beaten down by their own fans. Seriously. The only acceptable response is that the Patriots are the unclassiest (not even a word) team in the NFL and our team is better because yadda…yadda…yadda.

Doesn’t bother me though. PatsPulpit is great because I love the Patriots and I love the class of fans that stop by and write in to not only support and analyze the team, but to talk football without the emphasis on building our team up by knocking down the opponent.

and you love PatsPulpit because of

me being the honorary Dolphin fan that refuses to argue with you Patriots fans ever again because respect is the key. Besides I like being over here because for the most part you all are actually intelligent.

It has already started with people calling the Patriots classless, but I'd like to make a few points

Not that it will matter, because people will think what they think – logic can’t change that.

1. Keeping the starters in shows more respect for your opponent than throwing in the second string. That’s akin to saying, “I can still beat you with one hand tied behind my back!” No thanks, don’t want the JV girls squad, beat me with Brady, it’s an easier pill to swallow.

2. Brady wasn’t connecting with his receivers. Even their first drive ended with a FG. They needed practice against a live opponent to get that down. Brady played one drive in the second to see if the Titans had adjusted their defense. They hadn’t, so Hoyer came in and got practice.

3. Chris Johnson was dangerous the whole game. He still broke off some good runs.

4. With over 2 minutes left in the half, they kneeled the ball instead of trying to score. They could have punted on the fourth giving them a longer field but didn’t. Titans could have thrown a couple plays with the 36 seconds they had left, but chose to end it and go home.

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

Awful points, awful points

Ok no I’m kidding. I was actually cheering for you guys to run the score up further because of my hate for the Titans. So the score was fine by me.

Phil Simms said it best yesterday.

The defense gets paid to stop the offense, and the offense gets paid to score. It is not the place of the offense to stop themselves.

That being said, the Titans, with the injuries on defense, were outmanned before the game ever started. And I feel bad for a team that can’t get out of their own way.(been there, done that with the Pats in the past)

Fans are so jealous of the Pats that it doesn’t matter what we do, they will find something to piss and moan about.

Personally, I would have loved to have seen 29 points in the second half to set the record for biggest margin of victory(73-0). My thought has always been why let off the accelerator if you don’t have to. It irritates me to see these articles where these high school parents are upset when their son’s team get blown out. Welcome to football. It’s just like poker; sometimes you eat, other times you get eaten.

So anyone who is whining about running up the score, just imagine how bad it COULD have been if Brady and the 1st string had played the whole game.

Even the way the game went, the Pats left 12 points on the field

The Titans managed to stop one drive on their own 2, Gostkowski missed a field goal, and the obvious safety that wasn’t called. That would have made it 71-0. If Brady stayed in, who knows?

Asking an offence to slow down

is basically asking guys whose livelihood and future earning potential is dictated by performance not to try when they’re at their best. I don’t know what everyone does as their job, but if your boss or supervisor or senior partner or whatever says to you “You’re doing a great job, if you keep doing it we’ll give you a raise next year, but we don’t want you to, stop doing it,” you might have grounds for complaint to the courts or tribunals. When you ask footballers to do it, it’s supposedly “etiquette”? And more to the point, etiquette from (amateur) high-school football? Aha.

It's also a recipe for injuries

No one on the other team is going to stop playing their hardest just because you’re showing them mercy, so you’re exposing your players to greater injury risk if they don’t play their hardest.

All you can do is play the backups and change your playcalling. After that, it’s up to the other team to do the job they’ve failed to do in the first place against your starters.

I was hoping Tits

would give up an even hundred. If any organization deserved that beat down it is the Tits.

Dolphins fan here:

I honestly don’t see how anyone could say you ran up the score. You’re a primary passing offense, and that’s what you did (very well obviously) in the first half, and just so happened to rape the opponent. Now I, of course as a Dolphins fan would have hoped for a Titans win, but you don’t get to see blow outs like that every day, especially in the snow.

I was checking my phone for scores and saw 45-0 Half and had to change my pants. Shit was crazy. At least Fatass McBlobicous and Snatchez got their L. Congratz on yer win guys, I don’t come over here often, but I figure a spanking like that deserved a special visit.

The offense had to get in sync

We’ve got the Dolphins coming up, and we can’t compete with you without an offense. Also, the Colts. How do you go against Manning without scoring some points? Doesn’t happen. They clicked in the second quarter. Played one series in the second half to see if it was a fluke, and sat Brady. They put up 35 points in one quarter! Amazing. If they can just get a fraction of that against a solid defense, we should be fine.

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

exactly

that’s why you won’t get any hate from me, and most fins fans will agree. some will have their opinion but mine is that you went out, did what you do best, got your W, didn’t run up the score even though you guys could have fisted the Titans even harder, and did it in style. if anything this will get the Fins/Pats game some more publicity and we’ll get to see it nationally.

I think this year's rivalry will be a good one

we’re both evenly matched, and last year both games were very one sided.

Just please destroy the Jets next time. Give fatty a heart attack

We'll try

I want to see Sanchez questioning which underwear to wear for game day. We don’t need some self-assured QB in Jets land. We want a self-doubting nervous wreck that questions his decision to go pro.

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

Belichick didn't go to enough children's parties

so he doesn’t know that when the other kid gives you a giant, gift-wrapped turnover, you’re supposed to give it back while the music’s still going. Pass-the-parcel, turnover style.

The Patriots clearly ran up the score.

They had the opportunity to punt it on 4 downs, but instead they played football. What jerks.

Maybe they could have practiced special teams in the second half? Kicked the FG and tested #3 and, if it was a little too far, practice pinning the Titans as deep as possible? That would be valuable experience. I’m kidding, especially because ST practice would have been even more demoralizing.

I thought you were serious!

I want to see Wes kick a 50 yard field goal. And Edelman running a wildcat and throwing a little. And Randy Moss returning a punt. And I want to see if Tom can emulate Dough Flutie and nail a dropkick.

however improbable a comeback may be

It just demonstrates mathematical ignorance to criticize a team for taking every opportunity to score in the 1st half. If you’re able to put up 30, 40, 50 points in thirty minutes of play, it stands to reason your opponent could do the same in the second thirty minutes.

Is there “running up the score” in the pro ranks? Sure, but it’s all about the time remaining on the clock, not the margin of victory. If you’ve dropped 70 on your opponent but you’re still in the second quarter, the bulk of the game remains to be played and presumably the majority of scoring opportunities are yet to come for both teams. You should keep scoring in that case.

In the complementary situation, you might have a much smaller, but clearly unassailable margin of victory late in the game. Say something like 28 points with 5 minutes left in the 4th. In this case, even though your margin of victory is much smaller, this is when you pull your starters and knock off the flea flickers and focus on getting both teams out of there with no further injuries.

But hey, most people never miss an opportunity to bash Hoodie, right?
