The Patriots safety was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his three-year career. Meriweather got New England's rout of Tampa Bay started, picking off Josh Johnson and going 31 yards for a touchdown on the Buccaneers' first offensive possession. He also registered another first-half pick as New England really put Tampa in the rear-view mirror.
"The difference today is I was playing within the defense," Meriweather said on Sunday. "I was being myself, but I was playing within the defense. The d-line got a great rush, and he happened to throw the ball like that, and I happened to have a good break on the ball."

Sparano: Joey Porter, What is best in life?
Porter: To crush your enemies, to have them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women."
Good suggestion
It wasn’t even the most boring game in London. I watched the mud show between Giants and Dolphins i 2007, and it was way worse.
Sparano: Joey Porter, What is best in life?
Porter: To get dinged with a personal foul penalty on a critical fourth-quarter drive, thus aiding in my own destruction.
Sparano: /facepalm/
As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

Joey Porter at the Combine
got the same score for his Wonderlic as he did for his 40 time.

Speaking of which...
Rod Smart was on the 2006 Raiders training camp squad. I guess the human oxymoron was using the rocket pack too, to get signed in the first place.

They let it slide...

Meriweather deserves the praise he's been getting, and the secondary has looked decent...
but doesn’t anyone have ideas about James Sanders being stripped of playing time? Is it merely a hangover from his injury, given he has been on the injury report? Is he slipping physically? Mentally? Is it that he’s just been beaten out clearly by McGowan (and lately, Chung)? Bear in mind he was being touted as the leader of the secondary pre-season – now he’s getting the least gametime of all the Safeties.
I know he hurt his shoulder in the Ravens game,
but he was listed as probable for the Bucs. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not.
