I'm stoked right now.

first of all, i was writing an excellent post yesterday about our team, but i accidently clicked refresh and i didn't feel like writing all that over again. so here's a summary(i think).

Our defense should not be taken lightly. this is by far the best patriots defense i have ever seen in recent years. i saw thing that i didn't even expect o sunday, and more.

for the first time in recent memory, i've seen TACKLING! for the first time in recent memory, i've seen COVERAGE IN THE MIDDLE(no one appeared to be WIDE open in the middle so far). and most of all, in recent memory, i've seen PASS RUSHING! all the things we needed to work on, definitely look like they have been WORKED on, and it's all thanks to our players.

meriweather was everywhere on the field! he was tackling left and right like he was the jerod mayo of the secondary. not to mention he made several key break ups and i was stunned by his performance. he kinda reminds me of an ed reed, but let's not get into that. our cb's performed better than i expected. i didn't see too much picks this year, but i've seen plenty of pass breakups which is more than i can ask for. butler, bodden, and springs were the clear standouts in the secondary(along with meriweather). when in the game, butler was a relentless in pass breakups, making very key plays when thrown to, and i haven't seen his kind of performance since asante samuel(although butler seems to get to the ball a bit quicker, and break it up instead of always going for the interception). bodden was quiet, which i like. i believe he was covering kelly washington, and kelly was VERY quiet in the game, catching 1 or  2 passes i think. springs made some of the best tackles i have never seen a corner on our team tackle like springs did last night. he was above average as a corner, but great as a tackler, and our secondary as a whole suddenly became tackling machines as well. covering: great     tackling: perfect

our de's and lb's played GREAT! we were stopping the run, pass rushing, and making some of the greatest tackles as well in recent patriot history. jarvis green and mike wright performed very well, and certainly earned their recognition as GREAT AND WORTHY starter next to wilfork and opposite of ty warren.

I'm starting to get my swagger back

not that it matters if i have swagger or not

They stopped the run?

Not entirely sure about that, Ray Rice’s stats were fantastic even before his 50 yard run. What they did do was make the Ravens decide they had to move away from running it, for some reason, although I’m not sure how they quite accomplished that feat.

By having more points.

Two scores up for much of the game.

Sure, but I still didn't see the reason for moving away from the rush

10 yards per carry for Ray Rice including the big run, 5.5 without it? That’s pretty useful, and he only needs to break one to make it a one-score game.

Harbaugh's an idiot.

It’s been well documented.

Hahaha

True. But I figured they’d have enough experienced, vocal players (Reed, Lewis, Suggs) to scream at the coach about Ray Rice actually working to change his mind. Unless those guys are only big-mouthed to the media after losing, which would be a shame. I’d figure they’d say something to the coach.

i know he carried around 10 times for around 50 yards(excluding the 50 yard run).

but add in the facts that some of his runs were around 7-9 yards, and most were around 3-6 yards. even letting him get JUST 50 yards is still called a great run defense, because besides that 50 yard run, he wasn’t that much of a factor. it seemed like when they went to run the ball, the pats stopped them. the pats even even topped 2 runs in a row i believe, when the ravens only needed around 2 yards for a first down. i was concerned about the running game, but the running game didn’t seem like much of a factor when i was watching it. don’t forget that mcgahee was also in on the carries, and he didn’t seem like he was getting too many yards against us either.

I guess I was comparing it to the Packers defence the other day

Shutting down Adrian Peterson to 50 yards total is very, very impressive. They did a number on him. Shame they couldn’t do the same to Favre.

i didn't watch the game

i refused to watch a game that was sooooo hyped by analysts and the fact that it’ll get the highest amount of viewers this season, just because of the aging brett farvre who is a whore for the media. i refuse, and i did just that.

Ugh, I envy you

It was 3 hours of Favre-hugging. More than 3 hours, if you count the pre-game hype. Vomit.

I for one

Will be very concerned regarding our Match….(what am I british?) GAME this weekend if the pats get a 2 score lead. If your DB’s are playing like you say, and no I have not watched many of your games this season, then Orton is in for a heluva game. We need Knowshon and Jordan (maybe Hillis?) to be on top of their running games so that we have a chance.

I won’t go as far as to say Denver can’t win this game….because they can. But it should be a great game, with a lot of good, hard-hitting action. I can’t wait.

marshal and your defense might be the biggest problems for us in my opinion.

you do have good-great RB’s, but i’d rather keep my eye on marshal instead.

Ahh, this is awesome to hear!

(Bronco fan here) For many of the games, other teams were worried about Eddie Royal, always double covering him.

I am guessing that no team in their right mind can ignore Marshall now, so this works in the favor of the Broncos.

I am most concerned about your offense, particularly Brady. He’s the kind of quarterback that you can hold down for 55 minutes (game time), then slip up once and somehow you lost. That’s always scary.

Oh, and I like that Meriwether guy.

i like eddie royal, he's an underrated talent, and should be at least in the top 15 or top 10 WR's(imo)

our secondary looks really improved, so i don’t know what will happen when we do face marshall and royal. all i know is is that they’re REALLY good, and if we happen to stop them, then i am convinced that this might be our best defense since 2004.

by patriotguy on Oct 7, 2009 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

royal is

Definitely a top 15 or top 10 WR overall, but in this offense he won’t shine like last year. Its the price we pay for a balanced offense

patriots suck

What happened to Tom Brady and the Patriots? oh yah they got taken advantage of by THE BRONCOS

by BRONCOS#24CHAMP on Oct 11, 2009 8:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Classy, dude

You mean a Broncos team that’s basically a Patriots jr? Meh. Brady isn’t healthy and the Broncos still needed an overtime field goal to win it – it really was a toss of the coin. Well done, though. Really taking advantage of the Pats, and all that.

+1 and from a Broncos fan!

Show some class. It was a great game, well played and like many such games, it turned on the execution of one or two plays. This could well have been a Patriots’ victory.

BUT NOTHING JUSTIFIES GETTING INTO SOMEBODY’S FACE LIKE THAT, especially as gracious as the fans here at Pat’s Pulpit have been.

I apologize for him.

No problem

He’s one of a very small minority – unlike, say, all the Jets trolls that came in here after that game.

I imagine that the Broncos have become the second-favourite team of a lot of Pats fans; either because of the pre-season links and trades and the like, or because of the conduct of the team in the last few weeks. I doubt some idiot troll is going to change it. Good luck for the rest of the season.
