Why going for it was definitely the right call
Your defense was an utter disgrace in the 4th quarter. Usually collapses of that magnitude are precipitated by turnovers. Nope, not here. Ironically, the only turnover during the colts' comeback was committed by ...the colts. Go figure. The pats d was so epically bad, it looked like manning was engaged in a scrimmage. It also left your coach with an ugly choice. It should never have got to that point.
Also, and TMQ touched on this tangentially, so many tactical decisions made by coaches are predicated on the principle of CYA, so that they can duck direct criticism. BB doesnt care about avoiding criticism;he only cares about winning. Gotta respect that. But here's something you have to admire more. In making this tough call and drawing all this criticism, he has taken all the heat off his players. All of the talk this week has been about the controversial call and none of it has been about the colossal choke job by his players. Along the same lines, the colts have received very little credit for the gutsy comeback because the 4th and 2 controversy has taken up all the oxygen.

you're just rehashing old news here
and stealing points from I8to88. The Patriots don’t write up all of the media articles so take your beef about press coverage up with ESPN, SI, FOX, CBS, NBC and NFLN. Maybe you could think up your own comments too, instead of stealing from another Colts lover’s blog.
Keep the faith!
We lost our best pass rusher in the first quarter and another in the second quarter
As a result, Manning had NO pressure in the second half. Because of that, he did a great job carving up the defense. It is amazing how many people complain after getting the win that they also don’t get credit. Tell you what, I’d rather have the win. Count your blessings. This is also old news, and we would rather think about this week. We have a tough schedule ahead.

there's an old saying
“Right decision, wrong result.”
When distilled down to its very core, sports is about odds. As a coach, you make the calls that give your team the best odds in that situation — that doesn’t guarantee success in and of itself, but it doesn’t mean you made a mistake as a coach.
If I’m facing a left longballer in the bottom of the 9th with a one-run lead, you are damn sure I am bringing in my closer with an awesome strikeout ratio over left handed batters, rather than going with the starter who may have courageously legged it out to that point. That still doesn’t guarantee a strikeout or that the guy isn’t going yard, but in terms of maximizing your chances for victory, that’s the call.

What wa the Colt disgrace?
If the Pat’s D was a disgrace in the 4th quarter, and it ended up a 1 point game, there must have been something disgraceful about the Colt’s performance for your contention to make sense.
But I agree with you. BB made the right call. There can be no legitimate debate refuting that.
Warm up the Duck Boats!!!
look, you idiots...
I am not a colts fan, I was rooting against them (as I am a fan of another afc south team). I also have a life; I’m not going to look up every comment on here made by colts fans much less crib from them. This is just my 2cents. Full disclosure: I root for the Texans and believe me they are a disgrace. They outplayed the colts 2 wks ago and they just pissed away the game. They just dont know how to win and close teams out. But they’re the freakin texans so what do you expect. But your game sunday night pissed me off. You’re the Patriots, for godsake-3 super bowls. For 3 qtrs you looked like the more talented and better prepared team-because you were. And then you just stopped executing on both offense and defense. Oh, but you had your best pass rusher out. Boohoo. That’s no excuse for turning into the raiders’ defense. Those 2 long touchdown drives looked like scrimmages. The Pats on both sides of the ball looked as though they were moving at half speed. Lethargic and subdued is how I would describe them.
But you know what pisses me off most about that game? On the final td “drive”, they allow addai (not earl campbell or walter payton) to bust through them on an inside run from the 14 yard line. For a sec, I thought he might score and leave enough time for brady to answer. Roughly 45 sec would have been left. Certainly no gimme given the way the offense had tanked nearly the entire 4th qtr, but still it would have been way better than 13 sec. But that IDIOT! Wilhite tackles him at the one. At the one!!!! ughhh! All in all, the biggest choke job I’ve seen in a while and a thoroughly aggravating, stunning evening. Gotta call a spade a spade, fellas
A million to one shot, doc. A million to one.
your "two cents" were already spent
ad nauseum, before you made your special, unique, oh-so-important-but-already-dissected post.
Keep the faith!
if your pass rushers are out, ESPECIALLY against PEYTON MANNING and the INDIANAPOLIS COLTS,
you defense will not perform very well. that’s that.
question- “How can you stop Peyton Manning?”
answer- “Simple. You have to pressure him with a PASS RUSH.”

I have no problem that he went for it on 4th down. i think that it gave them, although more risky, more of a chance of to win. but if he made it, and we won, i wouldn’t be surprised if, in the same situation, does the same thing in the postseason or superbowl. and if he does, and we fail, well, it’s because that it worked 95% of the time(it doesn’t have to be 95%, it is just an example), and it just so happened to fail at the most important time of the season. By him loosing, especially against the colts, i hope that these situations in the postseason, belichek knows that we can’t always depend on the 4th down(especially in our own territory) to help win us the game.
i'm kinda mixed with the 4th down thing
but this is what i believe MIGHT happen if we did win.

its very easy to play monday morning qb.
Looking back its easy to say we should have punted cuz obviously it backfired. At the time i was hoping we went for it, just cuz i like many pats fans am a bit overconfident in our offense and a little nervous when it comes to playing D.
Bellicheck did what he thought would give us the best chance to win the game, i have no doubt in that. We ran a play that we were obviously very comfortable running, and knew we could get short yardage out of it. My only problem with the whole play was that Brady didnt pass to welker who was clearly pass the 1st down line, and just as open.
I think however, we will dig deep and grow into a better, more motivated team from this loss
In Kobe we trust!
