Post Game Thread - Pats Over Jets 31-14
Terrific win! It felt like Christmas instead of Thanksgiving with all the gifts Sanchez gave to the Patriots. Lots to still work on before we hit New Orleans next week, but let's enjoy this one for now. And how about Wes Welker??? Beast of a game!

Felt good to get a decisive win like that
Can’t let up in the second half though. Something to work on during the week.
Keep the faith!
60 minutes - the guys need to work on that.

Nice for Cincy to cough one up against Oakland too
Puts us right up there in the conference

He was decisive and seemed to run possessed sometimes.
He also moved some piles. He did well.

Really? 'Cause I thought he sucked.
Same dancing BS as usual. He had a couple good carries and managed to get in the endzone twice (though that was his ONLY contribution on those drives, for the most part). But he still averaged only 3.5 YPC and lost a fumble in enemy territory.
by Ben Buchanan on Nov 23, 2009 1:49 AM EST up reply actions
Against a top-rated run defence, 3.5ypc is pretty decent
especially in a pass-first offence. He not only kept them honest, he got into the endzone twice. And it’s better to lose a fumble in ‘enemy territory’ than losing it on, say, the 6 yard line.

it seemed after he ran over kerry rhodes
he turned on beast mode.
I also agree with SMP.
In reality, Maroney has played fairly well for most of the last 5 games and despite that his number wasn’t called enough yesterday to create big yardage numbers and despite the early fumble (only the 3rd or 4th of his whole NFL career), I thought this was his best game all year.
He ran aggressively THROUGH the line and THROUGH traffic. And he ran THROUGH people.
And this may have been the toughest run defense he’s had to face all year.
If he does that, then even if he only gets 10 carries, he’s going to add value to this offense.
ok did you see wes welker stiff arm that dude? huh so why didnt he do that to the colts defence? huh well of course their going to beat the jets they suck but patroits fan’s just face it peyton mannings better and is one of the best quarterbacks in the game…. i mean they beat the jets 31-14 but why not the INDY COLTS…..

What's your point?
Thought the Colts would have beaten the Ravens by a bit more than 2 points, what was up with that? That wasn’t Manning, that was the defense. Whatever Brackett is getting paid, it’s not enough.
Keep the faith!
yeah your right but the better team came out with the win.so you think because you guys beat the jets your the best team in the league for that 31-14 gay win. well lets talk about that 35-34 win huh. how did you like that 11 second touchdown pass from peyton to wayne for 1 yard with 11 seconds left on the clock!!!!!!!? =]

nah, no one's won anything yet
Colts and Pats each walked away with a win Sunday. As you so eloquently pointed out (that was sarcasm by the way) it doesn’t matter if the win was by 1 point, 2 points or 17 points.
What’s the matter, not getting enough attention at Stampede Blue? What isn’t right is how can you be so bitter and hateful when your team is undefeated. Bizarre actually. Other teams’ fans have that right, but not you. If this doesn’t make you feel pretty good about things I don’t know what would.
Keep the faith!

Agreed
A great start to today’s game, then too close for comfort for a bit, but then a solid 4th quarter and, overall, an impressive win. It doesn’t make up for the one that got away last week but, with losses by Cincy, Pitt, and Denver (we would have lost head to head tiebreaker with them), the playoff picture is looking up and we still have a good chance at the 2nd seed.
Need to do better with their second half play.
The third quarter really had me convinced that they were gonna let the Jets come back. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
Good bounce-back win, but they have their work cut out for them next Monday.
Beer is good! And stuff!
Do you really think the Patriots cared about the Moss-Revis matchup?
I thought one of the best plays was sending Welker long, and having Moss go over the middle. The Jets had 4 defenders committed to Moss with Welker wide open for the long ball.
Keep the faith!
I’ve wondered why the Pats don’t send Welker deep more often. I know he’s a little fella, but as we saw today, it can be a great idea—sparingly, of course.
by LegendaryTadpole on Nov 22, 2009 9:49 PM EST up reply actions
He's still primarily the check-down, long handoff guy
95% of WRs in th NFL can go deep. Only one or two guys can do what Welker does. It just makes too much sense for him to do what he’s good at.

flat speed vs acceleration
Welker has a ton of the latter, but tops out on the former. Moss is the prototype for the converse.
You want your deep fly guy to have top speed to beat their top cover corner on the bomb.
Welker is fast enough that he probably is going to beat the #2 cover corner on most teams, but if they send him deep more then he’ll pull the attention of the #1. The Pats offense works on the theory that the other team is forced to put #1 on Moss and if they don’t, they’ll pay for it over the top.
It is a great change-of-pace play though. The #1 has to stay with Moss when he cuts across the middle like that and most of the time the safety is shadowing Moss as well. Thus when Welker does go on a flyer like that, he was wide freakin open.
Have you ever seen a team, talk so much shit yet cant back up their mouths?

I'm kind of annoyed...
…with how our punting unit’s been playing lately. I feel like every single punt has a defender up in Hanson’s grill. It’s not a good feeling.
Yeah, you'd noticed that last week, and sure enough it came up again.
I’m not sure why he’s taking so long – the snap seems to have sufficient velocity, unless the arts of long snapping are something beyond what I can observe. It’s not pretty to see him squeeze punts out between defenders, even if Slater and Arrington seem to be getting in the face of the punt returner pretty promptly if they do get away.

I wouldn't think so.
The bad punt was an overloaded line that they didn’t compensate for. The others seem to be Hanson’s slow walk with the ball. Hoodie’s been upset about that in the past. Time to fix it again.

he seems to dawdle a bit in the windup, even for an NFL punter (I’m used to rugby punts done on the run; anything seems slow to me, hah).

As a Phin, I would have preferred that you lose due to playoff implications, but beating the Jets is always cause for celebration. I consider 17 points an acceptable drudging. I still can’t believe O’Connell hasn’t even been considered instead of Sanchez by now. Game-balls for Pats go out to Mark Sanchez, Wes Welker, and L. Bodden.

It was a good win, a bounce back from such an emotional loss to Indy. Rex Ryan’s arrogance has completely backfired. Not only has he failed to back it up, but most fans don’t mind a Jets opponent hanging as many points on NY as possible.

That’s too bad, I think Butler is the superior athlete but and Wilihite is 5’9" and not the next Dennis Green or whoever that long time CB for the Redskins was? My FB History is lacking
Wilihite on experience alone, I'm thinking.
He gets targeted which isn’t good, so his start role may be up for grabs.

Wilhite was pretty fast in his Combine 40 time, almost as quick as Butler
but he’s getting picked on because of his lack of size and inability to be physical at the line – very reminiscent of Ellis Hobbs in some ways. Every week of experience Butler racks up is a week closer to Wilhite’s replacement, from what I’ve seen.

"Darrell" Green
Former ‘fastest man in the NFL’. Great talker – used to fill the papers with fun quotes. He really was a burner and pretty good cover corner.
“Dennis” Green was a former lineman and Head Coach.
ya oops
Well anyway, Wilihite is no Darrell Green so can he manage and I saw the Colts replay over here,,,,Reggie Wayne tore him to bits! We need to draft a good corner but then again I guess there is no guarantee there either.
so if wes welker stiffed arm that dude then why didnt he do it to the colts defence?i just want to know of course their going to beat the jets i mean come on who are the jets so why didnt wes welker do that to the colts defence or even better MEVLIN BUILLIT my player of the game for that great tackle
Settle down there, buddy.
Ball security is more important than a stiff-arm. You don’t strike me as someone who’s ever played a contact sport at high level – doing one play in one situation in one game against one particular opposition doesn’t guarantee similar success against everyone – especially if you’d need to travel back a week in time to attempt it again (brilliant logic, by the way).
You’re a bit late with your baffling and lame attempt at trolling. I’m not even sure that’s what it is, because it’s just that weak.
