Sunday Games Open Thread
I am, yet again, performing fatherly duties by providing a sound system for a Christmas Parade my daughter's dance studio is marching in. I drew the line at tights and an elf hat, though. I get to blast the same song about 20 times from the back of a car while 130 dance students march and dance through the streets of Andover, MA. Thank goodness the Patriots aren't playing today or I'd have a coronary. Missing a Patriots game 2 weekends in a row would be tough to take. As I mentioned before, last week marked the end of spirit fingers, but today heralds the beginning of jazz hands. Don't ask.
Here's your Sunday games open thread. Drop by and let us know what you got going on. I'll check in as often as I can.

Don't know if anyone's watching this...
but Chris Carter is a sanctimonious douche. He’s a JoeBuck-enabler. Man needs to get over himself.

Loving that game so far...
but as we know all to well, even a 17 point lead isn’t safe until there’s no time left on the clock

Hate the play calling on that last series for the Texans...
You need to keep piling on points on the Colts. You can’t kick field goals. What is up with teams passing on 3rd and 1?

Lol, Jake Delhomme has 3 INTs already!? Its only the second quarter... Wow...

To be fair, neither was his fault
The first one, he got hit as he threw; the second one, Wayne ran a bad route.

We will see how the season pans out...
Manning seems to be going through a rough stretch right now… its tough to argue against Favre though… best season of his ridiculously long career. He has thrown less INTs than Tom Brady… I don’t think Favre has ever done that.

what drives me crazy
is that the adage “play a full 60 minutes of football” does not apply to the Colts. They can look like crap for 2+ quarters, and then always have the ability to just ram it right down your throats. We should save some guys just for the 4th quarter if we see them in the playoffs, just to have fresh pass rushers… (I can’t tell if I’m half-joking or not)

I still say
they took the air out of the Texans with the 40 yard phantom PI call and, despite the final score, this Colt protection is getting ridiculous. The league needs to do some serious zebra butt-chewing. I swear there was only one man in America who thought that was interference, and he threw his flag. They’ve gotta come up with a way to review those calls. The ball was completely uncatchable.

didn't u hear about the new rule?
you’re not allowed to cover colts receivers.
seriously tho ppl were bitch about brady getting roughing the passer calls, ppl should look at the colts and their phantom PI calls. every game in the past weeks they had a PI call that pretty much lead to a score.

A penalty should never be an automatic 40 yard gain...
Sadly I don’t think its going to get changed unless the Colts get badly burned by them and Polian starts whining. Seeing as how the Colts are the primary recipients of PI calls I am sure that Mr. Polian is going to stay put.

The French actually played really well, by far the best of any of the northern hemisphere teams
that NZ has played on tour. It’s just the NZ offence clicked and the French just couldn’t do anything in the NZ half except a few 50m penalty kicks.
It was just a really comprehensive display by the All Blacks, up to and including destroying a French scrum on the French 5m line, pushing it back over the goal line and scoring a try. And the scrum was the best thing the French had.

The Welsh were beaten by Australia over the weekend
and they lost to NZ a couple of weeks ago. They were patchy, but played pretty well at times. They’ve got a lot more flair than the English, but I think that gets dampened down somewhat because they all tend to play for English professional clubs. It’s unfortunate, because they’re forced into playing an English-style game by default, which is all kicking and set-piece stuff.

On occasions
but the Northern Hemisphere sides decided a while back that they were never going to match the Southern Hemisphere teams for speed, skill or fitness, so they made a conscious decision to stock up on massive guys and kickers. The French and English were particularly prone to picking guys almost solely on size, which meant they wanted games to be awfully slow, stilted affairs where it was more or less constant scrums or lineouts. Ugh.

I'd still go with Manning at the moment, on current form
Manning is carrying his team, and he’s closing out close games more or less by himself. Favre has Adrian Peterson to shoulder a load, and he has a wonderful choice of handing it off to the best back or throwing it – in other words, he only throws when he wants to, not when he has to, like Manning.

by Comedic.Sans on Nov 29, 2009 5:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
however the counter arguement is..
manning is turning it over alot these days. As good as he is, sometime if he is putting his team in a hole cuz of his turn overs. yes he leads them back but if he doesn’t throw some int the colts might not have so much close games. Also it’s not like peyton has crap team around him. not as good as the vikings but he does have some good receivers, decent rb and the referees on his side. (Jk on the last one..sorta) also a decent 2nd half defense.
by lololol on Nov 29, 2009 5:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Haha, easy explanation
You can avoid those situations where you’re likely to throw interceptions when you can just let Adrian Peterson punch it in. Not so much with Addai or the rookie, Brown. And just having that extra yard or two for every carry means Favre is facing 2nd and 4 instead of 2nd and 6 consistently for every down. Those extra yards add up, and it all means that Favre is consistently under less pressure than Manning.
Manning has to throw it to get the yardage => more interceptions.
Manning has more pressure on him consistently because the rushing yardage is lower => more interceptions.
And Manning doesn’t have the running back firepower to use it on pressure situations => more interceptions.

So
Who’s worried about a 10-6 Titans team getting into the playoffs and facing the pats?

It wasn't a wholly serious statement
and I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs, but all my titans fans friends (which there are quite a surprising amount of for a small CT town keep throwing that at me lol.
I think they have a decent shot at beating the Colts though, they’ve managed to escape every game for several weeks now with a little luck, and VY just has that intangible “He’s a winner” factor that has to at least make you think they have a shot.
I don’t really think Warner would of given them a win either today, Leinart played well, and in the end it was bad defense and some untimely penalties that got them.

I'd never count out any team, no matter how bad, for divisional games.
Upsets and almost-upsets happen all the time. Need I think back to the Bills?

just remind them of the 59-0 beatdown and the fact that vince threw an int on his first play against the pats

Eh, that'd be like someone reminding the Bills of a few of their beatings
and then, but for a lucky fumble or two, they would’ve won against the Pats.
All rules are off for divisional games.

true...they nearly upset the Pats in week 1
they probably want to get that 12 game loosing streak to the Pats of their backs
