Shalise Manza Young reported The Patriots have sent home four players who were late for today's 8 a.m. team meeting because of the traffic issues the weather has caused.

Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas, Gary Guyton and Derrick Burgess were told to go home and cannot participate in team meetings or practice today. It is unclear if there will be further punishment or fines.

i understand the need for discipline and rules

and I’m not in New England right now, so I don’t know the details of the storm severity, but this doesn’t exactly sound like a bunch of guys who were late because they were out partying. But who knows what the actual details are — still, seems a bit unnecessary, unless these 4 have a particular history of being late or inattentive.

horrific commute in the a.m.

If I were a cat, I would have used up half of my lives this morning. I swear the town didn’t send out the plows because it was banking on the rain kicking in sooner than it did. The results were disastrous with the main roads and intersections all slushy, icy, snowy hazards at the worst possible time.

No excuse for the late Patriots though, but I sure wish they had stayed for practice and just got fined. They all need it

Keep the faith!

No rain here.

Just snow, snow, and more snow. Four foot drift across my driveway.

Wow

A normal storm for you up there?

Not the worst by a long shot.

I can still see out of the windows.

I'm in Boston...

…and at 8 AM (and before) it was a blizzard. It was hard to walk, nevermind drive.

by Richard Hill on Dec 9, 2009 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

how was it in Central MA?

I remember when I lived near Foxborough, we were right on the “transition line” for a lot of winter storms where it’d be snow on one side, rain on the other.

by jctsai12 on Dec 9, 2009 1:23 PM EST up reply actions

it totally sucked

my road was still not even sniffed by a plow as of 2pm. Took me forever to clear driveway and cars cuz the dam snowblower’s belt jumped a pully. Fixed it with freezing cold tools inside my freezing cold garage then got back out there. By then it was sleet falling with a brisk wind.

Then driving across unplowed streets to get to the highways which were still slick and dangerous. Saw 4 different accidents on the side of the road on the way in.

dang

Well, thankfully my parents are retired and didn’t need to go anywhere today. I hope.

It’s a bit nasty in Illinois today in terms of wind and ice and snow, but nothing too bad. Nothing approaching blizzard, that’s for sure.

What's snow?

I thought it was that powdery stuff on top of mountains that’s only good for skiing on.

I got to see some two days ago...

albeit from the cabin of an passenger aircraft from 10,000 feet, sprinkled on top of an active volcano in bright summer sunlight. But still.

Well i just popped in to see about your 4 players

But since your mentioning weather my brother is in chicago in a snow storm where he lives and it’s 78 and sunny on mississippi gulf coast
I couldnt even imagine all that snow expecially in the fall

Crappy weather in NE today

I think it sets a tone. If the rest of the guys can make it, why can’t these 4?

+1

None of my people got to work late today. In bad weather, they’re professional enough to leave home a little earlier than normal to ensure they have plenty of time to get in on time.

by RSNexile on Dec 9, 2009 12:02 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly

Anyone who has lived in NE (and other foul weather areas) knows enough to pad their commute. However, my commute’s a couple of feet from my bed, so I probably don’t have the right to an opinion. ;-)

i get that

And I agree that, in most cases, people should be able to prepare themselves adequately. Sometimes though, issues are out of people’s reasonable control, like if the cities fail to salt/sand/plow heavily trafficked areas, or there’s an unusually high number of accidents, etc. By allowing adequate time, you can compensate for almost everything, but there’s a reasonable threshold to that.

That the other Patriots made it on time does reflect poorly on the tardy guys. I just hope that the discipline for those four is because they didn’t do everything within reason to make it to practice on time, and not because stuff that was really out of their control due to the weather mucked things up.

by jctsai12 on Dec 9, 2009 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

You think they sent Burgess home

and told him its for good??

Also, discipline is always good. Doing it to Moss also sends a “no one’s off limits” message.

We woke up with it here in Vermont, and if you get up at a certain time to leave for work every day to get there 15 , 20 minutes early- you were late. Unless, of course, your commute is “a couple feet from my bed.” ROFLMAO- hahahaha!!

Those of you who think you know everything just annoy those of us who do!!

by Sully F on Dec 9, 2009 1:40 PM EST reply actions

Can he send them all home...

…for playing below potential and losing to a mediocre Dolphins team?

It is totally kick a$$ time. They need that. What has been going on is not working to this point.

Now, this comment needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as I write this not from my normal New England abode, but from the tropical isle of St Thomas. It is easy to be critical when you commutte involves a 5 min stroll to a beachside cabana.

Have a nice trip.

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

I wouldn’t consider us “mediocre,” that’s almost an insult.

…the Pats are only slightly above mediocre now, the way they’ve been playing.
