From Pats Insider
Watch the CAP moves. If the Pats clear the space, they can make an offer. Peppers would make sense but they need MORE room

I'd be surprised...
if Cassell isn’t dealt in the near future – teams need solid QBs and we can get some good picks for him

Peppers
Given that Vrabel is likely gone, Peppers makes a lot of sense to fill the void. Now, what the heck’s going on with Cassel? I need a drink…

Why
Why would the Panthers trade for Cassel? Haven’t they committed to Delhomme?

I think I mixed 2 separate items in one comment
Didn’t mean to imply Cassel would be traded to Panthers. I can’t see Cassel going to the Panthers either. I would’ve thought Vikes, but Sage “Helicopter” Rosenfels was apparently their guy.

Cassel to KC
Yeah, Mike Reiss from the Boston Globe is speculating the same thing:
After stepping back to digest the surprising news of a Patriots-Chiefs trade with Mike Vrabel, two thoughts came to mind:
1) How much are finances a part of this decision?
2) Could this be part of a larger deal with the Chiefs that might involve Matt Cassel?
Blogger at SBNation's New England Patriots blog, Pats Pulpit
confused by that scenario
First, if KC is the trading partner, can anyone name a single reason (league, cap, contractual) reason that it would happen in separate trades? Is there a rule preventing franchised players from being traded with another player/picks going out as well?
Second, that is scenario that is difficult for me to believe. Assuming that Vrabel traded on a one-off basis is worth an early 4th rounder, which is probably fair, then implicitly, Cassel is worth a swap of picks from 23rd to 3rd (with huge associated cap hit) and an upgrade from 4th round to 3rd? Why wouldn’t (hypothetically) for a 1st or even a 2nd rounder alone, with no vrabel, swap, etc… be more attractive to the Pats?

now it sounds like Cassell is headed to KC
as part of the Vrabel deal

Brady
Which most likely means Brady will be ready to rock.

Potential big deal announcement
From Musket Fire:
Sources out of New England, have it pegged that’s there’s a “major announcement” involving this KC-NE trade coming at 6 pm EST tonight. Does the deal include quarterback Matt Cassel going to KC along with Vrabel? KC sending a player and possibly draft picks as part of the package? Or is it just the media having fun and messing with the minds of NFL fans?
