Panthers deny Peppers trade rumors
From ESPN.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3988198
Apparently the Carolina Panthers have gone on record saying Peppers trade talks have not yet occurred with the Patriots or any other NFL team. Because Peppers has not yet signed his one-year franchise tender or gotten an official offer from another team, the Panthers are technically prohibited from shopping him by the rules of the existing collective bargaining agreement.
Peppers himself (with his agent) is allowed to negotiate with other teams, but Carolina may not do so.

Yea I believe that like I believe the Patriots negotiated in good faith with Cassel before franchising him.

Peppers agent leaked the story to stoke a competitive bid
They know they will have to take more than a #34 to the Panthers to get them to bite. But the Panthers do want to move Peppers but they aren’t going to give him away.

Bingo, Jaxon.
Even in this market, they’ll be able to get a first rounder for Peppers.

I have to disagree
The Panthers are tight against the cap, and Peppers has made it clear he wants out. Unless there’s a lot of competition for Peppers (which there very well could be, but we haven’t heard anything), the Panthers don’t have a lot of leverage.
That’s a lesson we learned dealing away Matt Cassel. I think a high second rounder sounds about right for Peppers.

Maybe I spoke too soon
I should’ve read bartHML’s post first! Looks like there’s interest from four teams =P

Yeah, that's what I was thinking NESilver
As for QB’s…a lot of teams are committed financially or see a cheaper solution on the horizon. There weren’t that many potential homes. Peppers is a slightly different story.

Read arlow's post too
That’s four teams that Peppers is interested in. There’s no guarantee that all four are interested in him. I think there is ample reason to believe the Pats, one of the four teams mentioned, aren’t interested in Peppers at the salary he would get this year and would demand in a long-term deal.
And in any case, you can bet there were more than four teams with an interest in Cassel, but it’s likely that not all of them felt that would be able to make competitive offers. I’m reasonably certain, for instance, that Detroit would have offered the #20 pick if they thought that would be all it would take to get Cassel, but no one considered it was even remotely possible that the Pats would accept an early second rounder and even throw in Vrabel as part of the deal. We know Denver was interested, but it seems like they didn’t make a bid until after Belichick and Pioli had agreed on a deal. We know Tampa and Minnesota were interested too, and possibly Houston. And I’d bet the Jets were interested, all protests to the contrary, but they had to know the Pats would rather trade with anyone else.

All these reports
Dealing with Peppers make my head spin. I’m gonna defer to you on that one, as the reports on him are all contradictory and I don’t want to read yet another one.
As for Cassel, Minnesota’s interest died early and they seemed to have an eye out for Rosenfels anyway (the same way they did last season). I’m also not entirely sure you can include Tampa Bay into that mix, as they seemed to be interested in acquiring Cutler with that three-way trade, not Cassel. I don’t think I ever read anything on Houston.
As for the Lions, I still think they were foolish not to offer their #20 pick right from the start (what was it they offered after the Cassel-Vrabel trade to the Chiefs went through, their #33?).

ESPN and NFL.com now report that four teams are in the mix for Peppers
Pats, Cowboys, and two unidentified NFC teams. From those four, the Cowboys don’t even have a 1st round pick. Any ideas who might be the other two teams, running a 3-4 defense and in need of an OLB?

4 teams that peppers is interested in
Not neccessarily 4 teams that are actively persuing him.

And if Peppers really wants out...
That list of his will get bigger. Something like this will happen:
Peppers’ agent: Julius, the Bengals are interested in you.
Julius: The Bengals?!? &#$@%!! that.
Agent: But they’re offering $45 million guaranteed in a front-loaded deal.
Julius at the press conference: “It’s always been my dream to play for the Bengals!”
