I’m surprised they didn’t go with the classic red ones

Yeah, what Pie said.

Why not go with red? They are home that game.

I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

I believe they can choose the uniform

According to the NFL announcement regarding the AFL matchups:

The NFL will highlight the 50th anniversary of those teams during “Legacy Games” throughout the 2009 season. During one home and one road game, former AFL teams will meet head-to-head while wearing their chosen historic uniforms.

I could be reading too much into that, but Kraft and company could’ve simply chosen the white uniform because they liked it better.

Along those lines, since the red throwbacks are already widely sold and popular, maybe introducing white throwbacks is a strategic decision to generate additional jersey sales.

Seems like a good strategy.

But the red ones are more iconic in Patriot lore. Yeah, red would be nice.

Hands down the red one is better

it has more character, and bold color, than the washed-out white one.

Keep the faith!

Agreed. The white throwbacks look a little too much like Pro Bowl uniforms, which are always hideous.

For the hot weather

I think they chose the white uniforms because games early in the season can be hot — even in New England. Sometimes they wear the white, away uniforms at home for that reason. (Since it’s their house, they can make that decision.) Darker colors are obviously hotter. Might as well make the away team suffer. :-)

Check this out. First game of last season—white uniforms at home:

Excellent point

I had forgotten all about that strategy with the uniforms. I definitely remember that being mentioned last season, now that you mention it.

White throwbacks

I’m happy they’ll be wearing throwbacks this year, but not these washed out white ones. They used these during the 75th Anniversary year in the 90s and I though the white uniforms and white pants made them look weak. My guess is they picked these because they’re the uniforms the Pats used 50 years ago. However, in my opinion, the best uniforms the team ever had were from the 1985 Super Bowl year they wore on Thanksgiving a few years ago. I love those!
