Pats sign CB Shawn Springs
The Patriots have found a possible #1 cornerback for 2009 in signing Shawn Springs, who was released from the Redskins after they signed Deangelo Hall
Springs, a 12-year veteran, has played for the Redskins the past five seasons. Prior to that, Springs played seven seasons in Seattle, which chose him with a first-round draft pick in 1997 with the third pick overall.
The former Ohio State star has played in 143 games with 134 starts. He has 372 tackles, 32 interceptions, 66 passes defensed and 8 1/2 sacks. Springs is the son of former Dallas running back Ron Springs. He played in nine games with seven starts for the Redskins in 2008, before an injury ended his season.
I live in the DC area right now, and some of the talking heads on Redskins sports radio have lamented that Dan Snyder choose the the untrustworthy Hall over the veteran leader Springs. Also while listening to Jeremy Green on his podcast today, he flat out said that Springs was still the superior corner and that Washington was letting go of him too soon.

To NESilver who posted the first rumor that this was expected today.

nice addition, but...
I foresee another year of shuffling the secondary due to injuries.

does he have anything left?
between the injuries and age, I worry that he’s not going to have much left in the tank
I have the same concerns over Fred Taylor as well – is this a pattern this year?
looking forward to the draft and getting some youth injected into the system

Classic Hoodie
My experience has been Belichick loads up on certain positions for OTA’s and TC then watches who will fit. He’ll make cuts based on the NFL schedule and hopefully retain the guys who will work out. Last season, he was carrying about 10 CBs for a time and cut where he needed. Unfortunately, he decided to keep Deltha O’Neal and we all know how that worked out.

Karen Guregian's opinion seems to be predominant
Both of those guys still have juice in the tank and have the ability to play well when healthy.
Keep the faith!

This guy shut down T.O. in Week 4
I think he still has a little left in the tank. I’m pretty excited to see what he can do in a Pats uniform, and I think he’s a good choice to fill that vacant spot opposite Hobbs while the younger guys come along.
