Hated seeing the Super Bowl part....

The saddest part for me in the Super Bowl loss is that Wes would have been MVP. He was THE weapon all night and tied a super bowl record catches. He left everything on that field and the defense let him down in the end. Too sad.

I hope he breaks his record for catches in the regular season AND the Super Bowl.

Wes would have broken his catch record LAST year, if the winds at Buffalo were less than 70 MPH.

That game was just crazy. I was sure before the game Wes would end the season around 116 for the year. The fact he caught any in that game was flipping amazing.

or if he hadn't been knocked out of the game after Ryan Clark's hit

To steal a line from Deion Sanders, “I love me some Wes Welker!”

For a little guy, Welker is pretty hard to tackle. Defenses would give him the catch, thinking they’d contain him afterwards not realizing how hard that would be. I also liked how he’d avoid most of the big hits, going down just a hair before he would have been crushed — most visible in the play at the 2.38 mark of the video against the Giants. His reflexes better stay sharp or he’ll end up punch-drunk at the end of his career. I love this guy working for us.

Keep the faith!

Clipped together like that

he doesn’t look all that amazing. Just a guy who, somehow, is always open.

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

maybe that's part of the 'amazing' factor

He does his job really, really well.

Keep the faith!

That's kind of what I mean.

What makes him such a thrill is that he’s always there when you need him — like Faulk. His “highlights” aren’t all that special as stand-alone features. But in the flow of the game, he blows you away.

One highlight always comes to mind from Welker

It was in 2007, Week 2 against the Chargers (56 seconds in). Welker literally hopped backwards away from a defender, let the guy’s momentum move carry him forward, and then ran right by him. I remember jumping out of my chair when I saw him do that.

But I agree with what you say, he’s impressive in the sense that he just seemingly gets open every time.

I'm glad you found that!

My absolute favorite Welker highlight!

Yah

That one was on my mind even as I was writing my initial comment. He’s just too quick — never wins a footrace, but goes just as fast around corners as he does in a straight line.

Just a little guy who ALWAYS gets open. Ask Randy Moss....

Now where did I put that Welker? Oh crap, he caught it again.

When a guy like Moss asks you how you get into and out of your routes so quickly, you gotta be doing something right. The fact that Moss asked, as a way to improve HIS game, makes me respect him more.

The two were naturally spending a lot of time together as Patriots receivers, and it wasn’t long before Moss started chatting up Welker on some of the finer points of his smooth route-running. How do you get in and out of your cuts so efficiently while running full speed? What helps you find those creases in tight spaces, which is such a key in the NFL passing game these days? Tell me more about your footwork. Welker shared with Moss that he believed his background in soccer was a big part of it.

Moss agrees. So impressed was he with what he saw from Welker last season, he’s added his own soccer-specific drills to his training this offseason in Florida.

When one of the best asks you for your secrets, you gotta be good.
