Tinoisamoa Relased

The St. Louis Rams have released linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa, the team's leading tackler in 2008.

"This was a difficult decision based on a lot of factors," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said Friday in a news release. "I have a great deal of respect for Pisa and wish him all of the best."

Tinoisamoa, a six-year veteran drafted by the Rams in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft, recorded 135 tackles in 2008, 88 of which were solo.

Tinoisamoa spent much of the previous two seasons on the injured-reserve list.

Another guy I think the patriots should be looking at. Especially with the injury of Tyrone Mckenzie, I really think its important to get deeper at linebacker. I just don't see how we could enter the season being as thin as we are at that position.

Cap?

This was a cap move? or is this guy fragile?

The last line was sorta misleading.

He played all 16 games last year. It was the two years previous to that where he was hurt, playing 6 and 11 games respectively. However the three years before that he had remained relatively healthy playing most of his games.

More of a cap move then anything i think

I'm not sure it's either

The guy seems to be one of their best defensive players. He played all 16 games last year, so I doubt he’s fragile, and he signed a five year, $25 million contract extension in 2006 that covered him through 2011 and had a base of $3.25M for the coming season, $3.5M for 2010, and $4M for 2011, so they can’t have saved very much under the cap.

I wonder if they’re jettisoning good players in order to make a run for Sam Bradford in the 2010 draft.

I read somewhere that it was a size thing. With the change in coaching regime, they viewed size as a pre-requisite, and he didn’t have it

Admittedly, he's a little small for a linebacker

But he was still their best linebacker. They’re going to be awful this year.

i hope we get him

the rams will regret letting him go, this wasn’t a very smart move from them.

The size thing was the main issue

We’ve been hearing a lot about this here in St. Louis. The main reason he was released was because of his size, he is pretty small for a linebacker and weighed in last season at 220lbs. He just wasn’t big enough for what Spags was looking to make.

Also, having been to many a Rams game, while he led the team in tackles, most of them were already after the ball carrier had gained quite a few yards, he wasn’t that great at getting to the carrier near or behind the line of scrimmage. Other than that, he always seemed rather inconsistent to me. He would have a couple of good weeks, then a few weeks where he seemed to be out of position or faked out on almost every play. Granted that is just my opinion, but that is how it seemed to me.

Thanks for the insight.

I admittedly don’t have a lot of knowledge about Tinoisamoa, but from what I do know, he doesn’t sound like an ideal fit for our 3-4. I’d be surprised if he ended up in New England.

Pioli

If Pioli don’t want him then why would the Foxboro Jedi Master?

Monty Beisel
