New England Patriots Links 7/27/09 - Patrick Chung at Training Camp
Our most excellent links guru, Marima, is on holiday this week, so you have to put up with me again. I know, no biggie, right? Go easy on me...
Mike Reiss Patrick Chung reports to training camp (props to NESilver with an entry in this FanShot)
The Globe has learned that rookie safety Patrick Chung, the Patriots' top overall selection in the 2009 draft, is with the team in Foxborough today on the team's rookie reporting date.
Chung's reporting to training camp today means that he and the Patriots have been able to agree to terms on a contract.
Shalise Manza Young Patriots vs. Steelers: The real rivalry
As the Patriots have risen to prominence in the NFL over the last nine-plus years, guided by the triumvirate of Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, their primary rival has been considered the Indianapolis Colts and elite quarterback Peyton Manning. The Pats and Colts have met 13 times since 2000, and while many of those games have been great theater, when it comes to the debate about the greatest team of the decade, the Colts just don't have the hardware.

Wow...
A Providence, Rhode Island news rag proclaims the Pats the rulers of all the universe and the Colts as being no more relevant than a mouse fart. Big shocker…
Can anyone say “puff piece”? Pathetic, ego-stroking drivel by Sharise Manza Young…
"Flying blind on a rocket cycle?" -Vultan, from the movie "Flash Gordon", for no particular reason...
We could use mouse farts as an alternative fuel....
Then they would be very relevant.
A little sensitive? I live in Minnesota (looking for sympathy) and the local papers talk about how the Vikings are the best thing since sliced bread. Offended? What do the Indy papers say?
I think it is just a case of making the folks who buy the papers happy. Personally, I’m looking forward to our annual Pats vs Colts game, and then probably another in the post season. It never gets boring.
Hope Tom and Peyton are both at their best. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Good thing you guys got Vinatieri from us, you needed him to beat our backup.
INDIANAPOLIS — Adam Vinatieri still has it.
The 36-year-old kicker showed his old team Sunday night that age hasn’t sapped his distance, accuracy or proclivity for making big field goals. He hit a 52-yarder late in the game to give Indianapolis a desperately needed 18-15 victory over New England — and Vinatieri a measure of revenge.
“I’ve got all the respect and admiration for that team,” said Vinatieri, who left New England as a free agent after the 2005 season. “I’ve still got a lot of good friends over there. I guess that’s why it’s that much sweeter when you have an opportunity to play well and help your current team beat your former team. I’m pretty happy about that.”

It's kind of funny...
When Vinatieri’s kicking a clutch FG all us Colts fans are sitting there with two responses ready to fire back at the TV:
First response: He makes it. “Yes! That guy is cluuutch! I’m so glad we got rid of that jackass Vaderjagt and stole Vinny from those cream-pie-lovin’ chowdah heads! They never appreciated him the way we do!”
Second response: He misses. “Goddamnit! That Pats-lovin’ sonofabitch shanked that one on purpose! I’m gonna’ kill that baked-bean-eatin’ crabber! Damned Vinatraitor!”
