Aloha Pats Fans

I've come to the knowledge that some of the biggest and smartest football fans in the world are regulars on SB Nation's blogs, and Pats Pulpit is no exception. I have a challenge for you all.

As the off- season's end quickly approaches the inevitable roster cuts come too. Scott Pioli has made a habit of picking through New England's metaphorical trash when it comes to re tooling a roster that is far from complete.

I want you guys to tell me; who's on the chopping block in New England? Are there any surprise releases (like Larry Foote in Pittsburgh) that any of you can foresee?

Thanks guys

Briefly

I covered the positional battles before training camp. Summary Here with links to each group.

Some of it is a little dated since a few players have already moved (Matt Gutierrez, for one), and some have been more impressive in training camp (Terrence Nunn) than others (Matthew Slater).

I think Matthew Slater (wide receiver / safety / returner) could be looking for a job, since we have depth at all of those positions.

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

Great time to revisit your positon-battle post

You’re dead on about Nunn vs. Slater though. His drop during practice yesterday brought back painful Pittsburgh memories.

Keep the faith!

im from MI

Ive had a chance to watch alot of paris lenon and he got alot of garbage tackles. He stumbled into his starting role in DET from the lack of skill from any other LB and the losses. I would be very surprised if he made the team.

It may be now..it may be later...later aint gonna be no use! We gotta go in right now!Clean their clocks!

Hoping to do that before the 70 man cut

We’ll see if I have the time to do it justice.

You’ll notice I didn’t volunteer to take it on.

Keep the faith!

Hey 808NaNz808!

Good to see you again =)

I would definitely take a look at the links posted by SlotMachinePlayer. Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple logjams we have at certain positions.

Tight End: Benjamin Watson, Chris Baker, Alex Smith, David Thomas, Tyson DeVree. I think it’s likely we’ll keep four tight ends, not all five. I would keep an eye on Thomas or DeVree.

RB: Fred Taylor, Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, BenJarvus Green-Ellis. I can’t see Green-Ellis (aka “The Lawfirm”) making the team, so he’s a possibility. I’m pretty sure we’ll keep everyone else.

Offensive Line: Too many names to list here. Yates, Connolly, Wendell, O’Callaghan, Britt, Bussey are all guys who could get picked up by Pioli.

Brandon McGowan or Tank Williams at safety, Mike Richardson at CB, and some of our later round picks (Pryor, Richard, Ingram, Edelman) are all players to look out for.

Watson

I don’t think Watson will be outright cut, but he could be moved for a low-round draft pick, since Baker and Smith were brought in to upgrade the position, and since his contract is running out.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he was moved

Pre-season awards

It seems Benjamin Watson was given a pre-season award for… something. I’m not entirely sure what, given I got the feeling he was injured or not working out for a significant amount of it. So he’s impressing someone with whatever it is he’s doing… unless Belichick is making him extra-valuable prior to putting him on the trade block. Wheels within wheels, when Hoodie’s involved.

Thanks for everything guys.

I’ve been paying attention no worries I’ve just been busy looking at inter division possibilities ( you guys know how that goes) and some Miami Dolphin cast offs (Haley Parcells connection services much like Pioli Belichik) But I appreciate it!
