Bleeding Green Nation answers your Eagles question
The game doesn't count and by the time the first quarter is over, you probably won't know who any players are... but it's NFL football, Patriots @ Eagles.
- The Eagles' QB situation should be interesting to watch. Andy Reid said that Donovan McNabb will play maybe a quarter and a half, but if he plays more than 2 series I'll be shocked. With backup Kevin Kolb out with a sprain, the Eagles have only 3rd stringer A.J. Feeley and Adam DiMichele, who was just signed Wednesday. I'm not sure how much playing time DiMichele will actually get, but it should be an adventure watching him try to survive playing in his first NFL game after not even being in a training camp until yesterday.
- It should also be interesting to see the Eagles' two top picks LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin. Maclin missed about a week of camp, but seems to have picked things up quickly. With Brian Westbrook sitting out camp, LeSean McCoy got a lot of work and should get a lot of carries tonight. He's done a nice job in camp so far and fans are excited to see what he does against a live opponent.
- There are a few ex-Pats on the team. Most notably Asante Samuel, but also Dan Klecko and Ellis Hobbs.
If you have any questions about what you might see, just ask I'll do my best to answer.

He seems to still be learning the defense. He’s still in the mix for the nickel corner job.

Is he really over confident
he was here he thinks he a # 1 CB but maybe only a nickel like hes working for, which is good to have confidence but sadly if you cant play it doesnt help, will he be your KR/PR

I haven’t gotten that impression from him. He’s not going to start here and he doesn’t seem to have an issue with that.
He’s not in the mix to return punts, but he has been returning kickoffs in preseason.

He served us well in that capacity

Don't you also have Kyle Ecko?
The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

Yes
I forgot he was a Pat…
I don’t know if he’ll make the team, but he’s here now.

Fun Fact About Kyle Eckel
He’s an intern for Preston and Steve, a radio show in Philly. I don’t think that’s ever happened before.
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

Defense in general
I would like to know, what you expect from your defense this year. It’s been top-notch for a long time, but there seems to be a lot of turnover this year. (Johnson and Dawkins gone, Bradley out for the year.) Will the transition be smooth and will the aggressive style be kept?
by hythlodaeus on Aug 13, 2009 8:11 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The transition should be pretty smooth. The new coordinator, Sean McDermott, has been Jim Johnson’s assistant for a decade now. So there’s no doubt that he knows Jim’s playbook and philosophy inside and out. The question with him is whether he can call a defense like Jim. There’s no reason to think he can’t, but without seeing him do it we can never be sure.
I actually wrote about the impressive track record of previous assistants of Jim Johnson.

What's your issue with Donavon?
The dude is a top 10 QB and yet always seems to catch flak when he doesn’t win a super bowl. Do you think we’ll hear more of that or did the Kolb disaster of last year shut up the critics?
Also, how confident are you feeling about winning the division with TO and Plax gone?

Well… I don’t have any issue with Donovan. However, if I could venture a guess as to why some Eagles fans do, it’s the frustration of being so close so many times but not winning it all. They just want to see a championship.
TO was never really an issue for the Eagles, since he went to Dallas the Eagles have won 3 playoff games, won the division, and made the NFC title game. Dallas never won a playoff game.
Plax on the other hand, was always a thorn in our side and his absence was a big reason we were able to beat the Giants in their house in the playoffs last season. Their offense wasn’t the same without him. It will be interesting to see if they’ve been able to adapt this offseason.

how's the FS doing in place for brian dawkins?
by patriotguy on Aug 13, 2009 12:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
THere’s two guys in the mix, second year man Quintin Demps and free agent Sean Jones. Dawkins actually wasn’t playing much free safety toward the end of the year last year, he was playing closer to the line of scrimmage in a 3 safety set where Demps actually played the center field position.
Reports from camp seem to suggest that Sean Jones has the lead, but preseason will probably determine the starter.
Either guy will probably be able to offer more athletically than Dawkins at this point, but the question is whether either of them can match his knack for playmaking or his football IQ. He’s certainly lost a step, but he’s still a smart player that always knows where he should be.

What about the rookie...
LeSean McCoy??
Is Westbrook gonna give this kid a shot a some carries?? Are the Eagles looking to develope this young man?? Word is (articles/blogs) he is pretty good and should be a good back if given the oppurtunity to perform. Whaddya think?? Also, should I gamble on him in a fantasy draft?

in my opinion
i think he’s an excellent running back. i’ve seen highlights of him and he has SICK juking moves.

He’s had a great camp and should get a lot of work in preseason. He’s going to get touches this year, but how many depends on how healthy Westbrook stays.

Injuries
I thought I read somewhere that the Eagles were bitten by the injury bug pretty early this year in training camp. I know Stewart Bradley was lost due to a torn ACL. Who else (if anyone) has been injured in Philly?
by NESilver on Aug 13, 2009 12:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The only other guy lost for the year was rookie TE Cornelius Ingram who was taken in the 5th round. The only other guy that might actually miss games is pro bowl OL Shawn Andrews, who hasn’t participated in camp at all with back trouble. We actually have no idea what his condition is.

How does Jason Peters look?
He might have set a record last year for worst season ever by an offensive lineman who still made the Pro Bowl. Is he horribly overrated or was he just lousy last year because of the holdout?
by RSNexile on Aug 13, 2009 6:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think that’s really something you can tell in camp. We’ll have a much better idea over the next few weeks.
