Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

We often hear, that a quarterback is asked to "carry his team" in an effort to make up for an inefficient running game or a porous defense. Here Cold Hard Football Facts actually try to measure what this means - and find out who is good at.

Brady is great; you-know-who from countless commercials not so much. Check it out!

Once again...

The kids at CHFF look in-depth for a place on Brady’s ass that they haven’t kissed yet.

Let's try an truly objective source...

try this one on for size

Objective?

As you go back in his progression of calculating based on a single season. Peyton’s record setting season tops the list of all QBs. He’s adjusted his numbers by 2008, so that Tom’s record setting season nets him 10th place behind Peyton’s season at 4th place. WTF?

If I twiddle the numbers enough, I’d probably find that I make more money that Bill Gates. Where’s my calculator….

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

Peyton played in about 4.5 less games in his record breaking season

than Brady did in his. I’d say Peyton was more productive.

Numbers don't lie:

Just an FYI:

Peyton had 81 fewer attempts in 2004 than Brady did in 2007 (497 vs. 578)
Brady’s avg yard per attempt: 8.3, Peyton: 9.2
QB Rate for the year(s) in question: Brady: 117.2, Peyton: 121.1

So, yeah, I’d say that 81 fewer attempts in the season with 1 less TD is more productive. Peyton sat out several 4th quarters due to large lead over opponents.

81 fewer attempts probably equals about 2.5 games as Peyton avgs about 30-38 attempts per game.

peyton is a great qb

but right now, i’ll have to say brady is better than peyton. but if the numbers are correct, then 2004 peyton is better(stats wise) than 2007 brady. but 2007 brady(i’d use this stat because brady’s been injured in 08, and 09 has not started) is better than 2007 peyton.

Didn't Peyton throw more interceptions?

As well as having the luxury of playing in a dome… and that Colts team wasn’t playing for a 16-0 record, so no surprise with him sitting out that last game.

by NESilver on Aug 15, 2009 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Ok.

Peyton had a +39 TD/Int

Also, Peyton fumbled in 04 five times and lost the ball only once.
Brady fumbled six times and lost the ball four of the six times.

ok and 39 isnt as good as 42

fumbles are different, they work towards rushing stats which dont matter when you throw 50 TDs

by Patsfan4life on Aug 24, 2009 12:08 AM EDT up reply actions

right....

lost fumbles DON’T matter. Hope you’re enjoying that kool-aid.

Rings

3 > 1. Fumbles matter. Interceptions matter. Championships matter most.

Defense has a little something to do with SBs

Manning's biggest cop-out.

I happen to think Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks I’ve ever seen, and therefore find the whole “Brady vs. Manning” argument rather tiresome, but this is one excuse that gets really old, really quick.

Manning has had four years on teams with a top 7 scoring defense. Brady has had five. In the postseason those years, Brady went 13-2. Manning went 0-4. Regular season, Brady went 67-11 while Manning went 49-15. SB Championships during those years – Brady = 3, Manning = 0.

Manning has led his teams to fewer than 20 points eight different times in the playoffs out of fifteen games (and given the amount of times the Colts have been “one and done” I’m inclined to wonder if he really faced the elite defenses at that point yet), Brady in seventeen games has only led them to fewer than 20 points four different times.

Colts fans are quick to point to the defense, but Manning played a major part in their losses on potential SB runs.

by NESilver on Aug 28, 2009 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Points

Maybe if Manning was racking up 30-40 points in all of those playoff losses and it his D was giving up more that cost them games, I’d concede the point. But he’s not. He has failed to break 20 in more than half of his playoff games. Even with awful D, he’s going to get the ball more than 3 offensive possessions; he’s just doing nothing with them. That’s on him, not his defence. Lest we forget that in each of the Superbowls Brady has won, it’s either been him or his receiver getting MVP, not a DB or LB or DE.

should have been his kicker

and, btw, this was a discussion of the 04 and 07 seasons. when was the last time you guys won a SB?

BOTH Mannings have won one since…bummer.

Brady still holds more rings than all of the Mannings combined.

For now.

;) I’m exhausted, I give. Truce? Until November, that is.

Can’t wait until the November game. We need some payback for last year.

Kicker?

You mean, the very same kicker that your precious Colts needed to sign to win the Superbowl themselves? Haha.

Are you now adopting Eli as your quarterback?

I thought this whole farce was just a dick measuring contest between Peyton and Tom. Now you’re making it a three way – kinky.

4.5 less games

If I pay a QB 70 million dollars and he skips a quarter of the season, I’d be annoyed, not pleased with his statistics. Maybe it’s just me? Hah.

You'd have to talk to Irsay about that one...

he’s the one paying him. I never heard any complaints.
