Postgame Thread: New England Patriots defeat Washington Redskins, 27-24

Matthew Slater and Patrick Chung started off choppy on special teams, but found their rhythm.  Tom Brady has a sore shoulder have getting hugged by Albert Haynesworth.  Brady to Randy Moss looked good.  No Kevin Faulk or Wes Welker.  Still some stupidity that needs to be fixed.  Discuss.

Jamie Dukes just said, “Tom Brady is the best player in the national football league.” Wow. I know it, but I didn’t expect to hear him say it.

Keep the faith!

I will add that the starters did great

the Brady to Moss looks better then ever
it seemed Brady flicked the ball and Moss got the TD

brady to moss looked like the record setting combo. moss still has the speed. galloway on the other hand is annoying. I want to see him succeed because I expect him to be better than the previous stallworth. I expected galloway to be a big part of the passing offense…now I’m wondering if he can even make the team. (greg lewis looks pretty solid but not explosive)
I used to be a big maroney fan. then he kept getting injured and he wasn’t around to root for. the last year Lawfirm made his debut due to many injuries. the guy looks like a starting running back. (at least for this team haha). welker is my favorite player since he joined the team and we all know he didnt need to play tonight. when brady got “hurt” i could not believe it. i hope it is just a SORE shoulder.

now on to what is the 2nd biggest problem (1st being brady’s arm)…what the heck kind of defense was that. (4-3 i know) but could it look much worse? penalties were a problem and we didnt stop much. Mason looked like adrian peterson running (while we did shut down clinton portis while he was in). our secondary didnt look sharp. we did get a few good pressure/sack situations on redskins qb’s. overall i’d hope our defense would progress a little more from preseason game to preseason game.

and our backup qb’s…thats just sad to watch. i have more confidence in the person who posts below me to start at qb for the pats than walter or oconnell. (yes i know walter wont make the team).

and since last season i think butler, edleman, baker, and burgess are the best pickups. im not sold on fred taylor, leigh bodden, and springs. maroney should become a 4th-5th wr because he cant rush similar to reggie bush.

yeah i fell he will breakout this season

the Skins have a great secondary and they played them
so he was not going to breakout this game
plus with moss getting 2 td not much else will be noticed

i like how maroney ran last night

he showed more hitting the holes than he did the previous games. i still like o’connel despite his performance, and we can’t forget how cassel was in pre-season and how he ended up. moss looked more solid as a WR and galloway showed some promise.
maroney also contributed in the passing game with 3 catches for 30 yards. maroney looked good today, we’ll see how he does in the next game and in the regular season.

oconnell shows me less because plays like the bootleg he goes with his first read and just throws it and hopes. theres more than 1 guy on the field…he should look around once in a while ahha.
maroney looked great catching passes/returning kicks tonite…but still not a good RB. as pointed out by the announcers he isnt a very decisive RB. he waits to long for something to form and when nothing does he gains no yards.
only prob with maroney is we have a lot of WR’s and a pass catching RB … so idk where he fits in on this team unless he develops running skills.

still

maroney looked a lot better this game than the other two. he would only get better. remember, he was out for the season for just about as long as brady was. i agree with you about o’connel, but he’ll also will only get better. he hasn’t had a great camp by all means, but he’ll improve over time. the kid has talent, and so does maroney. like i said, we’ll see, but i’m impressed by how he did considering how his performances were in the previous games. he was hitting the holes more, and didn’t side step too often.

i agree with all of that. hopefully we wont NEEEEEEEED oconnell for quite some time.maroney IS running out of time to develop. i say we resign him to a 1 year contract if he rushes for 750+ yards this year because he just hasn’t been worth much more money than what he’s been receiving. i can only imagine how good the pats would be with marion barber. a physical runner who can get the job done running the clock down in the 4th. (i think i’ll go have a dream about that now)

(lets make that 750 all purpose yards haha)

maroney

he looked alot better than he has, but he just doesn’t have that burst through the whole ability. I like him though let’s give em 10 touches a game

It may be now..it may be later...later aint gonna be no use! Am I right Al? We got alot of angry guys in their black panthers, muslims, young lords, besides you average anti-socials. We gotta go in, am I right, clean their clocks!

it might also help O'Connell

if he didn’t stare down his receiver every time.

Keep the faith!

Offense way on track...

I thought the defensive line stopped the run very well and with our offense, once we get a lead, it will be alot easier to stop the pass, which equals a great season!
