My opinion
Is that Wilfork would not have been a captain if Seymour was not traded…
Am I wrong?

I was thinking about that...
Not sure if the captains are voted on by the players or chosen by the coaching staff. Wilfork was one of the defensive captains last year as well.
2008
Offense: Brady, Moss, Matt Light
Defense: Wilfork, Rodney Harrison, Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel
Special Teams: Larry Izzo
Keep the faith!

Well here is a partial answer
From the NFL’s post of last year’s captains:
Teams appointing season-long captains — 75 have been reappointed for 2008 — qualify for up to six captains to wear the letter “C” on the upper right chest of their jerseys. Gold stars under the “C” indicate the number of seasons a player has been a captain for his present team.
The “C” patch started in 2007 as an initiative to increase the importance of team captains.
While it says that teams can have six, both the Patriots and Cowboys have 8 in their list. Does that mean that only 6 can wear the “C” patch in a game? Only six can show up for the coin toss? No idea.
Dallas Cowboys
Offense: RB Marion Barber, WR Terrell Owens, QB Tony Romo, TE Jason Witten; Defense: LB Greg Ellis, S Ken Hamlin, LB Bradie James; Special Teams: S Keith Davis.
New England Patriots
Offense: QB Tom Brady, T Matt Light, WR Randy Moss; Defense: LB Tedy Bruschi, S Rodney Harrison, LB Mike Vrabel, DL Vince Wilfork; Special Teams: LB Larry Izzo*.
Ravens, Falcons, Packers, and Eagles appoint their captains on a weekly basis.
The players voted for the captains, so I would assume that only 5 got enough votes this year, while 8 got enough last year.
The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

I think we could have guessed this, but...
I think an Offensive lineman should always be a captain, don’t you?
