Patriots vs. Bills Game Thread

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots, Sep 14, 2009 7:00 PM EDT

When: 7:00 PM ET
Where: Gillette Stadium - Foxborough, MA
TV: WCVB / ESPN

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  Enough talk about Tom Brady, flower pots, babies, and his wife Gisele.  I want to talk about Brady, QB ratings, TD passes to Moss, and checkdowns to Welker (if he plays).  I'll be at Gillette Stadium for the game, soaking up all the festivities, and fighting the traffic to get home at "Ohh dark thirty", but it's a small price to pay.

I'll have lots to tell you about tomorrow but until then, here's your  open Game Thread.  Don't forget to swing on by Buffalo Rumblings for a rival fan's perspective on our matchup.

GO PATRIOTS!!

Moss looked good in that comeback route

they just seem to be doing un-natural things – Moss running Welker’s routes, etc. They’ll gel, just need time.

…but so far, the weapon I thought they had aren’t really the weapons they’re using. I expected our secondary to get shredded, but they haven’t really needed to try that yet. They’re gashing us on the ground.

Watch Brady's feet

He does NOT look comfortable back there. He’s not set when he throws and gets a russh on him. That O-Line needs to work.

by Comedic.Sans on Sep 14, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions

All things considered,

I’m not all that surprised at what we’re seeing. It’s a pretty different group than last year’s. The big disappointment so far is that the oline doesn’t really seem to have improved its pass-pro from last year. They look average at the run, but they’re pretty porous on the back foot.

When they are ok, Brady’s looked shaky.

I’m not sure they shouldn’t have gotten out of that play. They were outnumbered to the playside; the zone block left Light with two people to pick up (and he’s having enough trouble with one).

All better with time

I’m not sure it’s all on the o-line, brady is a bit rusty in his pocket manuevering, and the swagger isn’t in his step yet. All things considered it’s not a bad half – I love the 6 OL formations and dedication to the run early.

A lot of different formations, a lot of protection for Tommy, he’ll get better in the second half – Mayo being out is the key though. That would be large for the D.

Say hello to Derrick Brooks if he goes down.

They’re reading instead of reacting, and Van Pelt is playing them silly.

This defense has no fire

They lost its captain today (Mayo), a leader last week (Seymour) and one of the best all-time a week before that (Bruschi).

They need someone to start a fire back there.

Yeah

They just have a whole bunch of unwritten, hyper-sanctimonious “unwritten rules” that every body knows and nobody follows and Joe Buck wannabes trot out every time someone shows an emotion or something.

LOT of work to do for the Pats.

They should go to the practice field right NOW

Kinda expected this.

They were awfully uneven throughout the preseason. Seemed like they worked on one specific thing in each game, without ever putting a whole package together. With Mayo out in the first, they lost their defensive QB. Pretty tough adjustment.

Kudos to the Bills, though. Tossed their OC not two weeks ago, had a basically brand new oline. They almost stole it.

MAN THAT WAS CRAZY!!!

Sorry for the caps… and yes they have a lot of work to do and they better get to it.

Good luck cashing in.

Thanks for coming by — guess we both survived a rocky start.

ugly W is still a W

and in the division no less.

only gets better from here – and the NFL better watch out.

D has a HUGE Q with Mayo’s injury, but the offense is going to click, 3 solid RBs before you get to Faulk or BJGE.

Things are looking good on this fortunate eve

Wow, how'd the Pats win that game?

Oh, I know why. The Bills are too silly to realize that when you’re up by more than 3 points with less than 2 mins to go, you should try and get down to the ground ASAP when an opposing player HAS THEIR ARMS AROUND YOU!!!!!

ANYWAYS, Great job by Brady. He came through beautifully when he got a chance. Bottom line, rustiness or what not, that was Vintange Brady.

And, what does the Pats D do only up by one? They come through when they absolutely have to as well! Much props to them. : )

This could’ve ended in tears, and probably did, but it ended in laughter and overall feel-goodness. Something like that. Bottom line is, 1-0 is still 1-0, especially against a division rival.

What’s our reward? Having to face Dirty Sanchez and the Jets. Yay….-_-’

I think that takes a little away from Meriweather

when I looked at that play the second time, Meriweather held off and only hit the returner when he was slowing a bit to make a cut, and then got under and held him up for Woods to get underneath and make the play. Meriweather deserves a lot of credit for not only making a big hit, but keeping it alive long enough to make the second half of the play, the strip.

Then we’ll consider…maybe. <_<

Nah, he's earned it. He's neck and neck with Troy Brown in my book.

I'd say

as a Red Sox fan as well, he and Wakefield deserve a special place just for being so iconic of the franchise w/o putting up HoF numbers.

You know what I love?

Maroney’s getting Faulk-like. Run? Yes. Catch? Yes. Block… work in progress (don’t remember anything either way). Return kicks? Definitely.

A couple of direct snaps for TDs, a couple of pass attempts, some punt returns, extra blocking, and we have another Faulk. And Maroney’s faster.

wtf?

no one can hit the qb without getting penalized… when did the nfl become the national flag football league?

by KBerg on Sep 14, 2009 10:27 PM EDT reply actions

I'm not sure you want to post this on a Pats site

for fear of being trolled by everyone else. It seems like an overzealous application of the ‘Tom Brady’ rule, ad nauseum.

the refs had a point they wanted to make

and they were going to make it regardless
