Patriots vs. Bills Game Thread
Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots, Sep 14, 2009 7:00 PM EDT
Yes! Yes! Yes! Enough talk about Tom Brady, flower pots, babies, and his wife Gisele. I want to talk about Brady, QB ratings, TD passes to Moss, and checkdowns to Welker (if he plays). I'll be at Gillette Stadium for the game, soaking up all the festivities, and fighting the traffic to get home at "Ohh dark thirty", but it's a small price to pay.
I'll have lots to tell you about tomorrow but until then, here's your open Game Thread. Don't forget to swing on by Buffalo Rumblings for a rival fan's perspective on our matchup.
GO PATRIOTS!!

not a very good throw.
but its the first start.
Omg
Stop dropping passes. Granted, Brady was off on that one, but come on.
Maroney looks great, agreed
he’s a man on a mission.
Brady’s a bit off, but I’m betting he’ll settle down in the second quarter
Keep the faith!
Moss looked good in that comeback route
they just seem to be doing un-natural things – Moss running Welker’s routes, etc. They’ll gel, just need time.
An aside
When you watch commercials I get highlights (benefit of living in Europe) and Drew Brees just looks insane.
Damn.
I was hoping Wilfork was going to lay out Edwards on that, but it got blown up before he got there
This may be the ugliest first quarter eeeeevvvverrr
Ya’ know, besides that first quarter that started ’08…
Uh-oh is correct.
Who is the headset in Mayo’s helmet connected to? Belichick didn’t look too upset about Mayo going down. Not sure what to read into that, though.
Lotsa ugly so far.

The defense is untested
and the Bills do have some weapons. Now the offense gotta put some points on the board. Enough sloppiness.
right...
…but so far, the weapon I thought they had aren’t really the weapons they’re using. I expected our secondary to get shredded, but they haven’t really needed to try that yet. They’re gashing us on the ground.

Watch Brady's feet
He does NOT look comfortable back there. He’s not set when he throws and gets a russh on him. That O-Line needs to work.
we NEED to stop them on defense.
or i might loose hope.
All things considered,
I’m not all that surprised at what we’re seeing. It’s a pretty different group than last year’s. The big disappointment so far is that the oline doesn’t really seem to have improved its pass-pro from last year. They look average at the run, but they’re pretty porous on the back foot.
When they are ok, Brady’s looked shaky.

All better with time
I’m not sure it’s all on the o-line, brady is a bit rusty in his pocket manuevering, and the swagger isn’t in his step yet. All things considered it’s not a bad half – I love the 6 OL formations and dedication to the run early.
A lot of different formations, a lot of protection for Tommy, he’ll get better in the second half – Mayo being out is the key though. That would be large for the D.
Say hello to Derrick Brooks if he goes down.
Thank you.
The line hasn’t been mid-season ready by any stretch, but there are plenty of other units f-ing it up right now (and the QB is included in that).

Timing was HUGE
The fact that they scored with 2:05 means that the 2-minute warning may come into play and save them a TO.
yeah
It almost didn’t work. but it doesn’t matter now!
But if the KR had just gotten some yards and went down, like he should have, it likely would have worked out for NE.
these are the Bills. they have been here before
Just give them the rope and they will hang themselves.

Stop trying to stay up when it’s clear they’re tackled. Edwards did it to draw a roughing the passer penalty, and now this guy tries to do it, and Meriweather makes him pay.

If the Pats can’t prevent a FG (and TD of course), they don’t deserve this game. The two point would’ve been feel good, but this is the Pats’ D time to shine. Show us you can be a legit D right here and NOW!!!!!

If you think they are going 19-0 with this team
You are as delusional as people who think brady started playing like MVP when the bills went to prevent D.
Uncharacteristically mild of you,
but, nevertheless, a usually true statement.

Tough loss for the Bills man, but your team played great. Would have been a well deserved win had it not been for those last 2 mins...

Kinda expected this.
They were awfully uneven throughout the preseason. Seemed like they worked on one specific thing in each game, without ever putting a whole package together. With Mayo out in the first, they lost their defensive QB. Pretty tough adjustment.
Kudos to the Bills, though. Tossed their OC not two weeks ago, had a basically brand new oline. They almost stole it.

Wow, how'd the Pats win that game?
Oh, I know why. The Bills are too silly to realize that when you’re up by more than 3 points with less than 2 mins to go, you should try and get down to the ground ASAP when an opposing player HAS THEIR ARMS AROUND YOU!!!!!
ANYWAYS, Great job by Brady. He came through beautifully when he got a chance. Bottom line, rustiness or what not, that was Vintange Brady.
And, what does the Pats D do only up by one? They come through when they absolutely have to as well! Much props to them. : )
This could’ve ended in tears, and probably did, but it ended in laughter and overall feel-goodness. Something like that. Bottom line is, 1-0 is still 1-0, especially against a division rival.
What’s our reward? Having to face Dirty Sanchez and the Jets. Yay….-_-’
I think that takes a little away from Meriweather
when I looked at that play the second time, Meriweather held off and only hit the returner when he was slowing a bit to make a cut, and then got under and held him up for Woods to get underneath and make the play. Meriweather deserves a lot of credit for not only making a big hit, but keeping it alive long enough to make the second half of the play, the strip.

I'd say
as a Red Sox fan as well, he and Wakefield deserve a special place just for being so iconic of the franchise w/o putting up HoF numbers.
You know what I love?
Maroney’s getting Faulk-like. Run? Yes. Catch? Yes. Block… work in progress (don’t remember anything either way). Return kicks? Definitely.
A couple of direct snaps for TDs, a couple of pass attempts, some punt returns, extra blocking, and we have another Faulk. And Maroney’s faster.
