AT fined $5k.

Seems the league has fined Adalius Thomas five Gs for his hit on Edwards in the thrilling Patriot's highway robbery of the hapless Bills Monday.

I know some of you were thinking the call was BS in the first place, but the league knows better. The obvious release of Mr. Edwards by Mr. Thomas when he was whipping him down does not seem to have impressed the sage wise fellows at the league that he was trying to prevent pile driving the defenseless quarterback into the turf like a tent stake.

I felt the call could have gone either way, but I don't think the play actually meets the description of the rule. Well, the league is pretty much a joke these days with their "rulings", having about a 50/50 shot at not being completely anal in their surmising.

So, AT will have to skip a night or two out on the town to make up for the big fine.

Moral of the story

If you’re a competent pass-rusher, you should really try to get even more of a premium from the organisation paying you, because you’re going to get fined for doing your job – hitting the QB.

Agreed

The Pats should keep slamming QBs to the turf, if we had done it against the Giants in the SB, we would have 4 rings instead of 3. Keep playing hard, through the whistle and take the fines. As long as we are getting to the QB and tackling at the middle of their bodies, not the knees or to the head, we are good.

Thomas should appeal

Maybe Bianca Wilfork has another one of her ‘different-angle’ videotapes of the game she can take to the commish to argue on behalf of Adalius?

Keep the faith!

As a Bills fan, I felt the Wilfolk call was pretty bad (although if it wasn’t for the new “Brady” rule, that wouldn’t have even been called), but it evens out after him not getting fined for that crazy cheap shot on Losman a few years back….not that I mind that Edwards is playing now, but still….
As soon as Thomas flung Edwards to the ground, I thought it was going to be a penalty. They’ve been calling that one for years.

What about the penalty Whitner got for “spearing”??? His helmet was nowhere near him. You could make an argument for blow to the head there, but spearing….I thought the officiating was odd at best on Monday but that the calls largely evened out. How does TO get called for pass interference when the ball wasn’t thrown for another 2 seconds yet (it probably is a penalty of some sort, but not pass interference)? Doesn’t the ball have to be in the air? A bad week one for the officials in my opinion and not just in the BUF/NE game.

League still handing out fines...

For every infraction that occurs in a game. This crap has crossed a line from being strict to just outright ridiculous, and it’s dated back to 2007.

Overzealous calls versus season-ending week 1 injuries

I suppose the refs have had a call from the top that if any franchise QBs get injured this year, it’s on their heads. I can understand it, in principle, but I do wonder if the league will get hurt in the long run. If Bledsoe hadn’t been injured, there’d be no Tom Brady. If Tom Brady hadn’t been injured, there’d be no Matt Cassel. Montana and Young, anyone?

These penalties are ridiculous. It is a quarterback-driven league now. Teams are driven to success by their quarterback’s competency, so the league wants to protect the teams’ meal tickets. Boo. A quarterback is still a football player, and I say most of the time we should let the players play the game. Wilfork, however, had it coming for his hit cheap shot on JP Losman a few years ago. That move earned him a lasting bit of infamy among Bills fans.

Mmmph rrgh prrmf! - someone with his mouth gagged
