Patriots @ Jets Game Thread: a divisional shootout

New England Patriots at New York Jets, Sep 20, 2009 1:00 PM EDT

Imgdyn_cfm_medium

ON TV: WBZ / CBS  |  ON RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub (View Affiliates)

It's the outspoken Ryan against the calculating Belichick.  It's the 3 ring veteran QB against the upstart rookie.  Two huge inactives, one on each side of the ball: Wes Welker and Jerod MayoJoey Galloway will likely see more tosses come his way while Gary Guyton steps in for his buddy.  Protect Tom Brady.  Rattle Mark Sanchez.  Lookout for Leon Washington.  Is it 1:00 PM yet?

Welker Out..

Thats going to hurt.. But Edleman in hopefully will fill the void.. But now Baker, Watson, Aiken, and Galloway will have to step up and make the difference up.. Also our new TE Matt Light.. LOL Will have to help too..

Look at that!

Nice little side-step, then — no kidding — Joey Galloway.

Honestly, I feel a little sick. Like it might be the Super Bowl or something.

Definitely running into the kicker

And that previous play? The announcers aren’t sure there was contact beyond five yards? On third-and-five when the receiver is past the first down marker and the corner is grabbing his jersey?

At this point, I’m just surprised that Wright wasn’t ejected for sacking the QB cleanly.

They can never see the ball when his knee is down.

They need it to be conclusive, but from the angles we’ve seen it’s impossible to tell when the ball comes out.

Ruling on the field should stand.

Made a sweet duck/side-step (I think he thought he was going to get hit), popped out the left side, and JUST overthrew Galloway on a crossing route.

For the most part, they’re making a nice pocket.

If this wasn’t a multiple-blitz, ryan-style attack, we’d be up by 2 TDs. They bring dbs and lb-s by the fistfull and it’s been hairy.

Worked it out to midfield.

I think he’s starting to see things better. And (knocks wood) it looks like the o-line is settling in to the pattern a little bit. We’ve had a couple of runs where the only thing that’s saved the Jets has been the backside closing of the safety — and there’s not much you can do about that other than try to open the hole faster.

Well, I'm embarassed for those guys. Backside, frontside, everyside.

When’s the bye week?

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

Mayo is out..

Plus every team has to change over as players get older.. It was bound to happen sometime.. This new group has to get used to each other and start to jell

Back in the day, we'd get a big defensive play here

But we SHOULD be 0-2.

We sucked against the Bills too.

Funny thing is

As bad as the defense has been, it’s actually kept us in both games.

Sure

But wouldn’t you expect the offense to score 17 points?

by hythlodaeus on Sep 20, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No TDs today..

Kinda disappointing, Brady doesn’t seem so effective against the blitz either. His WRs need to catch the passes that get to them, though. Guess I’m spoiled as a Pats fan. : ’ (
