Quick game recap: Jets defeat Patriots, 16-9
An ugly, ugly day for our Patriots. The first half was pretty darn close with both teams trading back and forth. Very solid D from both teams in the first half with pressure on both quarterbacks. Second half was totally different. The Jets put massive pressure on Tom Brady and he simply didn't look comfortable.
Speaking of Tom Brady, I have to put this one on him. Sure, there was plenty of pressure, but even when he had time, he wasn't hitting his receivers. Granted, NY did a good job of covering, but there were a number of drops at bad times. Another killer? Penalties, way too many of them.
Lastly, and I hate to say it, but missed Wes Welker. Julian Edelman did a fine job, but he's not like Wes.
Discuss.

Bad game all around
Bad passing, bad drops, bad special teams, bad defense. What can I say.
Did anybody notice that Belichick didn’t call a single screen? Did he not trust Edelman?
by A Guy on Sep 20, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Are you sure?
I could’ve sworn they called a screen once to Edelman.

Not really
I might of missed it. I was away for like 5 min. However, 1 is way below the usual…

a revolting development
of course Welker was missed. And Galloway is no Joey Galloway.

it doesn't matter now, but...
did anyone else feel that the clock was never reset after Brady’s first delay-of-game penalty?

and I’m thinking ST coach Scott O’Brien was having fits watching that game

nah
but then again, neither did Manning last year coming off his surgery – and he didn’t miss a year either. So it’s still early, there’s still hope.
Keep the faith!

that is a good point of comparison
I guess it could be a testament to how comfortable he is with Welker, but his throws just seemed of in general

I'm feeling and thinking a lot of things
We got shutout in the 2nd half.
We scored no TDs.
Our WRs dropped passes.
Brady missed some receivers.
It’s only two games, but even last year’s offense with Cassel looked better than this.

Well the Offense Coord was McDaniels
Brady also has to deal with a new Coordinator… Not to mention a aging Oline

I'm thinking it's going to be a rough go of things up until the bye
Brady should and will play better, but I don’t think we’re gonna get turned around overnight

Also, our run game wasn't that bad was it?
Should we have tried to get that going a little more, or were the penalties kind of forcing us into passing situations early and often? That 3rd and short run to the left was so bad though. Such a boring/predictable play and we didn’t execute it either. Really not what I’m used to seeing from the Pats offense.

Brady is now long in the tooth
which means he needs a GREAT team around him to win. I don’t think he has it. Hopefully it’s another long miserable year for the Pats.

when was the last time we had a long, miserable year?
Last year was pretty good. I’ll take 11-5 without Brady.

last year for one
going 16 and 0 and then choking is another. No way that isn’t the MOST miserable.

2 games in the season stilla little too early to gloat
14 more games to play

lololol
No way gloating. Way too early for that as you say. Just saying that the Pats look like they won’t intimidate people anymore. I don’t know if the overall talent is there. And Belichick is historically not-a-genius when given run of the mill talent to work with.

So basically
You’re just some anti-Pats fan trying to put us down. Thanks for exposing that to us, even if you didn’t want to. : )

Hi Tai
Something about being an anti-fan seems oxymoronic, but I get your point. No, I don’t care for the Pats, and especially the majority of their fans, but that’s neither here nor there and I certainly don’t try to hide it. Hey, if the Pats win I’ll be right here saying they’re the best. But they haven’t won in awhile ( I see that lololol brings up 2004!!??, which is like an ice age ago by the football calendar), and there’s nothing wrong with that. Let’s face it, most teams would like to have the success the Pats have had over the past several years even when they have come up short.
Anyway, when you guys don’t win it all, and you haven’t in quite a while now, admit that you got beat. Don’t chalk it up to some “fluke” like that asshat Simmons does. And shake hands and say congratulations after a win, like most every coach except Belichick does. That’s all. Man up. The Pats and their fans, for whatever reason, can’t seem to come to grips with these simple things. Why is that? Seriously.

What?
And shake hands and say congratulations after a win, like most every coach except Belichick does.
When did Belichick not shake hands and say congratulations? I hope you’re not referring to the Super Bowl, because he clearly ran up to Coughlin and hugged him midfield congratulating him, despite the media’s obsession with the one second on the clock.

like in 2001, 2003 or 2004?
Those teams didn’t have the talent that the current pats have on offense. It’s al about getting everything to click, which hasn’t happened yet
by lololol on Sep 20, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oh, of course, Belichick isn't good at using run of the mill talent
That’d explain why all those players who leave New England into free agency after strong performances for the Pats do so well for other teams when they leave. Reche Caldwell, Tyrone Poole, Deion Branch, Willie McGinest, Eugene Wilson, Drew Bledsoe, Antowain Smith and Lawyer Milloy all come to mind. Belichick has made his name (and three Superbowl rings) out of getting solid-to-good performances out of okay-to-marginal talents. When those marginal talents go elsewhere, they dissappear completely.
If you were to pick out a Patriot who has epitomised Belichick’s era in Foxboro, it’d be either Brady or Troy Brown. A QB who was picked #199 in the draft who went on to win 3 Superbowls, and a guy who was picked at #198 in the draft’s 8th round, who ended up being the top Pats WR/KR/PR and sometime DB; a guy who Belichick delighted in getting on the field in every possible capacity, even listing him as an emergency QB. Belichick doesn’t know how to use ‘run of the mill talent’ indeed.

Galloway is frustrating
Looks like he went to the Reche Caldwell school of catching and the Chad Jackson school of route running.

two hopeful points
The loss gives the team motivation, and slow and steady wins the race.
I hate losing to the Jets, but better now than in the playoffs.

well
all in all, defense on both teams were great, but to me the big difference is that brady and his receivers were off key, and that the jet cornerbacks performed excellent on moss and galloway, especially revis.
kudos to revis.
and even though brady was pressured often, i seen plenty of inaccurate throws from him, and his receivers looked lie they couldn’t escape the press coverage.

Plenty of drops, too.
I thought they had gotten that out of their system last week, but it carried over to this game too.
by NESilver on Sep 20, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i think it'll take
till after the ravens to get the whole offense together. i hope they come together against the falcons. especially the defense because i believe matt ryan is the next tom brady. :).
i want to see some brady to moss action.

And Flacco looks like the next Ben Roethlisberger...
I suppose there is the benefit that the defence will be forced to learn to shut down a stud QB, one way or the other. That ought to help, if/when the Pats get to the playoffs. A string of games of Manning-like quality ought to toughen them up.
