MNF Open Thread: Colts @ Dolphins

It's Fivehead and the TractorPullers vs. The Other Chad and the Crazy Kitties.  Yes folks, Monday Night Football descends on our living rooms with none other than the Indianapolis Colts duking it out with a division rival, the Miami Dolphins.  I hate...HATE...to root for the Colts, but an 0-2 Miami might be less bad than a 2-0 Colts, knowudimean?

At any rate, drop on by if you have something to say and even if you don't have something to say.  8:30 is the time and ESPN is the place.

Go the injury reserve!

Well. Not really. Hoping for injuries is evil and awful and shouldn’t be condoned (Manning’s knees, cough cough, Manning’s knees).

Lol im gonna root for the dolphins just cuz i dont think they will be able to hold up for 16 games. We only gotta worry about the Jets.

In Kobe we trust!

that's what i was thinking at first

but I just can’t do it. About the only division rival I can ever root for (in any game they’re not playing us) is Buffalo.

yes -- would be cooler...

…though, if it was an NFC opponent using it and not someone from our conference/division! :)

I also have an irrational hate of option plays in college, so I admit I’m not objective.

Colts running attack

As much crap as we get for being an aerial assault team, Indy is very one dimensional – their running game stinks.

Wildcat

Anyone think Edelman’s performance as a Welker Mk. II means the Pats won’t be experimenting with a Wildcat any time soon?

by Comedic.Sans on Sep 21, 2009 9:43 PM EDT reply actions

I think it depends

My sense is it works well for Randy Brown and crew because Randy is a running threat as well as a passing threat. Edelman has some RB skills, but just not sure it can work with that combination.

Edelman's as quick at pure acceleration as anyone

He put up shuttle times that would’ve topped the Combine (if he’d gone) so he ought to be as sharp as anyone at those 5-10 yard bursts in the Wildcat. It’s a possibility, I was more wondering whether he’s just too useful as a regular player to risk in a gimmick play.

Fast, but...

Is he durable in a RB situation?

Depends how Welker-like he actually is

Welker’s absorbed more big hits, from all angles and situations, often blindsided, and often running into the teeth of safeties and linebackers, than any of the running backs that I can think of, and he’s had less injuries thus far (and that’s taking into account the last few weeks).

Edelman is being trusted to run the same scheme and patterns as Welker – I don’t see how being hit by Ryan Clark coming over the middle is going to be any less punishing than running a Wildcat and always having the option of tossing it to someone if it isn’t open.

I'm hoping for a tie like the Eagles-Bengals game last year.

“I didn’t know that,” said McNabb, who played a leading role in keeping it tied. “I’ve never been part of a tie. I never even knew it was in the rule book. I was looking forward to getting the opportunity to get out there and try to drive to win the game. But unfortunately with the rules, we settled with a tie.”
