Patriots sign DT Terdell Sands, release LB Prescott Burgess
The Patriots just announced via their Twitter feed that they have signed defensive tackle Terdell Sands and released linebacker Prescott Burgess, who was picked up in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens last Tuesday.
The 6-foot, 7-inch, 335-pound Sands was released by the Raiders coming out of training camp earlier this month, allowing Oakland to save $1.6 million.
The 29-year-old Sands had worked out for the Patriots last week. Sands had 29 tackles and two sacks last season for the Raiders, who signed him to a four-year, $17 million in 2007.
By releasing Burgess, the Patriots save themselves a seventh-round pick -- at least for now -- since the draft pick was conditional upon Burgess being active for a certain number of games for the Patriots.

I Don't Know Sands
but i think it is impressive that almost every player on the team is pretty darn good. the only person on the field i fear to see is galloway and you never know maybe he can turn things around.
what do you think the odds are that we can get a more productive receiver from a rebuilding team within the next few weeks.
It's interesting they went DT and not WR, after working out so many
So I guess Welker and Moss are closer to being fully game-ready than not. That, or they’re liking what Nunn’s doing in practice, and/or Brandon Tate’s recovery is coming along well. Week 6+ will tell a story, methinks.
Wilfork was injured during the Falcons game
Mike Wright rolled up on his ankle and it’s sprained. That could be the reason for going after a DT.

I thought I saw a report saying Wilfork's injury wasn't bad
and they have Myron Pryor, Ron Brace, and the other rookie on the practice squad if need be. Just surprised they decided to get choppy on the new guy. Do they still surrender the draft pick if they re-sign him later?

agreed
Colts game is the toughest, as they’re just firing on all cylinders and looking real good right now. We just barely lost to them last year, but they’re new guys are working out in a big way.
I’m thinking that our offense gets back on track soon – (they’re so close!) The Jets game is a must win, and I’m hoping they get knocked down a peg before we meet them in NY or else the trash talking will be completely out of control. (I’d have to scan the NY links for stories with both eyes squinted shut and my head turned away from the screen.)
The Saints won’t be a picnic either, but I’m confident with our defense – and more importantly, they’re confident in themselves. Drew Brees having a quiet game last Sunday was unusual, but it just shows he’s human too.
Keep the faith!
I wonder if the Saints are the hardest
if only because Belichick basically knows he’s going to hit the Colts once or twice a year somewhere down the track, and has intimate knowledge of how to shut them down. Brees, Reggie Bush, et al are an unknown quantity to Belichick, so he won’t have a standing system in place to shut them down. I mention Bush because I’m still not liking how the Pats weren’t able to shut down Fred Jackson. Dun dun dunnn.
