"it's time for me to move forward, with the Patriots or not with the Patriots."
One option that Wilfork is not interested in is being hit with the franchise tag.
"It's basically a slap in my face and an insult to me to tell me I'm an OK player," Wilfork said. "It is what it is. If it happens, there's nothing I can do."
"You don't have that security that you want, a long term deal where you're stationary, your family is stationary for another three, four, five years, you don't get the signing bonus you played all your career for."
If a deal is to get done, Wilfork said he doesn't care who orchestrates it as long as it happens.
"I want a long term deal or I want to be free -- point blank," Wilfork said. "That's how I"m looking at it and that's how my family is looking at it."

As much as I want Wilfork back.
I’m starting to think it might not happen.
Wouldn’t it just be so like this team to let him walk?
USG
i think they r waiting for the season to get over, tag him and then sign him to a long term deal when there is an uncapped yr

Big Vince would look awwwwwwful good in aqua and coral.
Parcells is licking his chops.
Got dysentery and died while on the Vincent Jackson Bandwagon.
Aqua and coral?
Those are supposed to be colors?
I grew up with the standard eight crayola’s, past that it’s for women and interior decorators.

Stop stressing. There is no way they let him walk.
I think this really is about strategizing around the lack of a CBA.
The Patriot’s will try to act tough, but Vince has tremendous leverage here. There is absolutely nobody to replace his skill set and physical ability if they ‘let him walk’ – and they don’t want him to end up on any opponent’s team.
Yes, they could franchise him, but if they do that, he could hold-out until week 10 and still get credit for an accrued season. I don’t believe for a second that the Patriots want to go half the season without their most important defensive lineman.
It will get done. It just won’t happen immediately and the media are all about instant gratification so they’ll be in a frenzy for a while until something new pops up to chew on.
Belichick will address at least some of the free agents in early February
according to a story in the Herald this past week. Hopefully Vince is one of them and he was just letting his emotions talk yesterday, completely understandable considering the uncertainty surrounding his contract and career.
Keep the faith!
I wouldn't go that far.
They just fired Pees. They let Seymour go. They have a very, very young defense. I know everyone loves Vince, but what if BB wants to take his defense in an entirely new direction – one aimed at stopping the PASS first (since it is now a passing league). Vince is a run-stuffer, and soon to be an expensive one. If the Pats want to develop a faster, pressure-oriented, edge-rushing team, they could very well let Vince go, and it wouldn’t be entirely about money.
Of course, Vince is such a force that I think he could be used in any sort of defense. Someone that demands THAT much attention from blockers is an asset to your defense, regardless of your strategy. I’m not sure how Vince WOULDN’T fit into a more pass-oriented D, but I’m also not a defensive “guru.”
a colts style cover -2 defense...faster and lighter?
then we will get burned by jets and fins run game

well...do u remember when they gave up 375+yards rushing in 06 against jags
i’m not a fan of using tampa cover-2. i’m a fan of going after the qb and not playing zone all the time

That's actually more about your ILBs than Vince.
If you want switch to a more pressure-oriented pass defense, then you still want a big middle of the line DL who can occupy two blockers. You just now want your ILBs to shoot single gaps rather than patrol two of them.
That would be unlike Bellicheck, though. And he just spent last season replacing parts to shore it up in his classic mold, which is about stopping the run up the middle and bringing pressure from the edges while preventing big plays downfield. If he gave up on stopping the run up the middle by letting Vince go, then he has to redo a whole lot more.
And since outside of a couple of games (which were fixable problems) last year’s defense was very, very effective I just don’t see BB changing from that.
Lately, I'm having trouble determining what is and is not "like" Belichick.
We tend to think of BB as having a certain style, a set way of doing things, strategically. However, I think we might be misguided. I think Belichick employ whatever strategies are necessary to win in the NFL. As such, he doesn’t have one set way. Instead, he adopts whatever schemes are necessary to compete with what teams are doing. He’s a football scholar who understands the games trends possibly better than anyone esle. If he sees trends developing that take away from the advantage of having a large NT, there’s no doubt he will lower the value he places on that position.
Now, I don’t know enough about the schematics of football to say exactly what changes would disfavor a large NT. All I’m saying is that if BB is foreseeing some widespread change, I wouldn’t assume anything about who will and will not be signed/re-signed.

While I agree that he is flexible and not totally enamored of just one way of doing things
he still has some basic philosophies that he is going to return to because, well, they work.
Also, a lot of choice is driven by personnel. A smart coach (and I think we all agree that BB is a smart coach) will try to leverage his personnel by using schemes that best fit their talents. Inversely, once you’ve got a core set of personnel that you’ve setup a scheme to fit, when you go out and recruit additional or replacement personnel, you don’t want to go get an OLB who can ONLY work in a 4-3 if all your current personnel and schemes have all been tuned to run best in a 3-4. You might experiment with things so that you have some variations in your arsenal, but there is simple inertia in any organization and a football team is no exception.
So once you’ve got something that works, there are alot of reasons to continue to use that as your basis.
Bill’s defenses DO have certain recurring characteristics and this last year’s defense had all of them except it had a lot of new and young faces.
